338/500 NE ?
338/500 NE ?
Has anyone heard of a 500 NE being necked down to 338? A friend is having a DR built in 500 NE, and wants a 2nd barrel set in 338. I'm aware that the 338 Lapua and 450 Rigby are often used a a pair in takedown bolt rifles, but have never heard of a 338/500 NE.

boom stickI would imagine the pressure would be the issue. I don't know if you want to shoot over 45k psi loads.
Maybe a greatly shortened case.
.348 WCF
That would make a damn good med. bore double.

338 Marlin Express
Yes, I had a Josef Winkler DR in 348 Winchester at one time. I think the 338/500 would work, if the case capacity was reduced by shortening the case.
Biebs,
A .348 WCF is essentially a .500/.348. The .348 is a tapered and necked down .50-110 which for all practical purposes is a .500 NE. .500 NE brass can even be made from .50-110 brass.
Northfork even makes .348 bullets. Or...you could neck down the .348 to .338 and you would essentially have .500/.338.

boom stickI think if you run a 338 lapua reamer in about 2.225" you will have the correct casehead dimension as the 500 NE and the neck thickness might work but trial and error you know. Case capacity would be about the same as the 338 win mag and the ejectors or extractors should work just like the 500 nitro. At 45k PSI maybe you could get 338-06 performance

BigFiveJackHas he thought about the "Very British" 333 Jeffery Flanged?
It seems that it's 450 NE brass at 2.5" length necked to .333"
diameter. I don't think that opening up the neck 5/1000" would
be too difficult resulting in .338" bullets being used. (of course
a .338" bored barrel)
