Would someone please explain what "Off Face" means?

When the barrels are not in contact or flush with the standing breech the rifle is "Off Face"
Once the rifle suffers this condition it only gets worss.

Putting a rifle back on face is not expensive and can be done by a qualified Gunsmith such as JJ Parodeaux at Champlins.

A quick check of this condition is to remove the forearm, grasp barrels in one hand and pistol grip in the other hand and twist. If the rifle is "Off Face" there will be movement.
