Found this recently and just got it in today. Action is tight, 26" barrels doll's head 3rd fastener, leather pad. The 475 NE is the easiest of the 475 cartridges...just a necked up 450 NE. It handles a 480 or 500gr bullets at about 2,125 fps.

Any idea when it was built? Nice!

Serial number is 14446.

There is a slight chance that the day book entry may give a clue to the maker ala Leonard or other out source supplier.

My Lancaster Colindian has serial number 756X and was manufactured in 1895.

Cal, the Appalachian Trail runs along the mountain ridges behind my house and property. They run from Georgia to Mt Katadhin in Maine. The Appalachians are not tall by Alaska standards due to their extreme age, maybe 1,100-1,300 feet.

What a nice rifle! The Pocono Mountain Range crosses into
western New Jersey from Pennsylvania as a point of information too.

The Appalachian Mountain range that runs through West Virginia is higher than where Jon lives. We have mountains that go 4,900 feet. They become lower in Jon’s area, but the same range. Just a theory, but the altitude difference may impact why us hillbillies are not quite as evolved & refined as the folks in Jon’s region.

It might also have something to do with the number of Moonshine stills in your area :-)

Nice rifle, Biebs!

I had a Cogswell & Harrison in .475 3 1/4" (.483 bullet). It shot quite well with fire formed .450 3 1/4" brass. I didn't full length resize, so before the fire-forming, it did look funny with the taper ending and a .483 diameter bullet perched on top. I used loads that had a MV of about 1850 fps. Very, very accurate even at the lower velocity and funky looking configuration. With 2100 fps full-house loads, I got 2.5" groups at 50 yards. Took it to Africa once and got a buffalo.

The .475 was a pair with a .375 2 1/2" little brother. Frank Beller bought the smaller from me and has promised to leave it to me in his will. Every on remember this promise so I can put pressure on Joyce if Frank reneges on his promise.

Bring the rifle down to Georgia and I'll set you up on a hog stand.

Cal: The mountain at my farm is pretty high, btw. I believe it's 23' agl. On a clear day, I can see all the way to the tree line.

I'd like to see all of you gents--again and some for the first time. Maybe in a couple of years. I don't need to go to Dallas for a hunt as I book them myself and know where I want to go and whom to go with. It's a bit difficult to leave my home in Alaska in mid winter.

I'll be hunting in SA in 2018 and taking a vacation in Zim. In 2019 I plan on a month in Zim to travel and see the intire country, perhaps a plains game hunt in SA again, and a trip to Iwo Jima on a military tour (Judge, I like the photo of the flag raising).

2020 is up in the air. The ibex hunt in Turkey as my interest up, perhpas another elephant or lion hunt. Buffalo and hippo have always been a favorite como. We'll see. I'd also like to exlore buying some property in Zim.

So, see all of you fine fellas in a year or two.

The Persian Ibex in NM are a fully controlled animal by NM Game & Fish the same as oryx around White Sands.
The ibex were introduced in the late 60's from Iran. If I remember correctly, it's a hard draw and tags are 'once in a lifetime'. There are some 'off mountain' hunts I believe that aren't draw, but success rate goes way down.

And the Floridas are some tough mountains.

I sure wouldn't either, but Persian Ibex are the same as Bezoar Ibex, which abound in Turkey.
