Anyone have a cartridge drawing of the .400/.360 cartridge or know where I can find one? Thanks.

If you need the measurements Donnellys Cartridge Conversions shows 1 of the two versions.

Can't find a drawing but here are the dimensions from "Cartridges of the World." Bullet dia. .358, neck dia. .375, shoulder dia. .437, base dia. .470, rim dia. .590, case length 2.75, cartridge length 3.59 No mid lengths such as neck length or shoulder angle are listed. There is a Purdy version listed with a .367 bullet diameter as well but no other dimensions.

But there were two different ones with that name.. Purdy and the Westley Richards. He didn't mention what he wants.

Great rifle and great cartridge. Unfortunately, it was maligned by Taylor for reasons mainly related to bullets available at the time he didn't like.

It was designed as an alternate to the 303 and offered a 50% heavier bullet with similar velocity, what's not to like?

Based on the number of 400/360 rifles you'll see it was very popular, especially in the 400/360 Purdey.

Thanks Jim, and thanks nitro450exp for the cartridge information. Jim, if you have load information you would share that would be great. George gave me a load of 40 grains of IMR3031, F210 and 286 grain SP. I loaded some yesterday. Pretty cartridge. I am guessing it would be a great plainsgame cartridge, and would probably be good for leopard. Of course, for deer and hogs it should be just the ticket.

I use 54- 56 grs of IMR 4350 in my Evans 360 with the Woodleigh 286 soft depending on the powder lot with Fed 210 and Horneber brass. Gets about 2000 fps. Did brass come with it?

Yes, a bunch of Horneber brass (guessing about 80-100 pieces) along with RCBS dies and a trim die. Thanks for the IMR4350 info. I will report back on how the IMR3031 performs.

Any pictures of the rifle / cartridges. .366 to .369 286gr bullet sounds similar to the 9.3X74R in performance? Maybe more style points!

That is a nice rifle.
IMO, the 400/360 is just about the perfect North American game rifle. Anything from coyotes to deer to elk to moose to black bear can be handled with the 400/360.
Yes, it is quite similar to the 9.3X74 and many English rifles were rechambered to the 9.3 but ballistically they must be pretty darn close to each other.
Also similar to the 400/350 Rigby rimmed. I have a Westley double in 400/350 No.2 which I hope to have up and running pretty soon. Also have a Greener in 360 No.2 which is the big boy of the 360's. Just love the 360 no.2!
