This Capybara was seen from 20-30 yards while running the boat up the Jamanie River, which flows into the Jatapu River. The river mouth is about an hour and a half run upstream from camp.
This is a close up of one of the most striking fish caught here. It is a Surubum Catfish (pronounced; sir-a-bee) This is a tiny one, I chose it for pictures because I could get so close. They are normally 15-30 pounds.
This is a Redtail catfish or a Pirarara in the technical name. This one is just a big fat pig, 75 pounds or so.
This is a Jundia Catfish. The best eating fish in this fishery. They get to the mid 20's and are pound for pound the best fighting fish here.
Pretty common having to push boat over or in some cases under stuff. This is Francisco, our guide. He is an Ish-Karinara (sp) Indian. They are gentle, quiet and generally shy by nature.
River otters are seen occasionally. These were super pissed about our presence. They complain loudly.
For me, these (Piraiba) are the main event and why I come here. These are 170-200 pounds. This pool is only about 10 minutes from our permanent camp.
The island which is right at the apex to my rod is actually the top end of the island camp resides on.
This place is super special, wild as hell, 1.5 hours from Manaus via float plane. The food is amazing, the cabins they just built, all have in suite A/C, Toilets and showers. The equipment is all good, boats and motors work and you don't spend your days working on junk that doesn't run.
Camp rods are great stuff and completely adequate. I like my own gear and find it worth my while to bring it all. I also bring all my own specialized terminal tackle. I have found what works over the last 5 years and WON'T compromise.

I have managed to upload all the pictures to my computer.
But otherwise I am buried in work and hunting in tx in 3 days.
I will write up something soon - more like a report plus guide for this trip to other ar members.

Thanks for the teaser and for staying on me about finally booking this. November 2017 will not get here quick enough for Joyce and me.
Cheers
