The Boxley Valley is about 15 miles west of Jasper, AR, and is near the community of Ponca. We got up there on Sept 16 early in the morning. There were about 80 elk grazing long about five miles of Buffalo River bottom, including 8-10 mature bulls. When we came back at noon, only two were still in the open, the rest having disappeared into the woods.

I have seen that herd several times while floating the Buffalo River but it looks like it has really grown since I saw it last.

ALLEN W. JOHNSON - DRSS

Into my heart on air that kills
From yon far country blows:
What are those blue remembered hills,
What spires, what farms are those?
That is the land of lost content,
I see it shining plain,
The happy highways where I went
And cannot come again.
