Your all wrong and should be reported! The king of the hill is the 6x284. Lapua Brass 53.5grs of H4350 behind Hornady 87gr V-Max produces 3,600+. Now thats a fast mover.

Well, I shoot a couple of 243's, a 6-284, 6 PPC, ^mm Rem, 6mm AI, and a 240 Gibbs, and if I didn't want to dick around with wildcats (but I do) I would go with the 6mm Rem hans down. - dan

Agreed! There may be some better ones made in Germany, but in the U.S., I'd go with the 6mm REM. This despite the fact that my only 6mm at present is a 6mm/.284.....

I have and shoot both the 6 BR and 6 PPC. For small furry varmints I will grab my 6 BR. For small groups at the range off the bench, the 6 PPC.

The 6MM Rem is the better cartridge but if you don't reload you better get a 243. The history of the 6mm Rem reads like a bad history lesson. Remington did everything wrong in the introduction. At the time they had the resources of DuPont. I never had a 243 until recently on I got a SAKO L-57. I have 3 6mm Rems including a Ruger #1.
It's just a better cartridge-just as the 30.06 is to the 308.

I can see blueprinting the action but why on earth would you want to change the extractor? If it works don't fix it.

I was told from a smith that was the way to go. I have not done it yet and probably will not. Now were working on a friends 6mm ran a bore scope down it and suprise. We found some stuff that looks like alligator skin about inch from the throat. So I put my rifle in the safe and I'll work some more on it when we figure out his issue.

One is cut rifles (Krieger) the other is button rifled(Lija) When I shoot mine out I'm going to put on a Broughton. They are suppose to be a faster Barrel. I well known gun smith by the name of Chris Matthews recomends them highly.Just search out the name of the Barrel maker he has a web page.I've heard he beats the barrels you mentioned by a mile.

If you get a Sako, they come with the good extractors already installed. Saves on gunsmithing costs.

And you have to wonder if it was it's superiority over the 264WinMag or the new Model700 Rifle it was chambered in that made the 7mmRemMag a success...

And even that was tempered by the fact that two years later Winchester switched to a cheaper to produce push feed rifle....

We must also remember that When winchester brought out their 225Win it was in the new design rifle and they had dropped the commercially sucessful 220Swift to make room for the 225Win...

They kinda shot themselves in the foot in both cases...

however, I do have to admit, it escapes me why someone would build a 6/06 when the 25/06 will do the same unless you want to shoot the 55 to 70 grain bullets with it..... then I see a lot of fast throat wear in your barrel's future.....

Amen!

As fast as a 25-06 can eat a barrel (BTDT) I don't want to think about a 6mm-06 240WBY 240Gibbs, etc...

Though I'm a huge 6x284 fan, for a standard round a 6mm Rem. in a long action is about as good as you can get.

One more vote for the 6mm Rem for overall performance.

I have tried them all:
6mm Rem
244 Rem
6mm AI
6mm-284
243

I have been shooting 6mm cartridges for more than 40 years and all of them do the job.

IMO if you want to hunt deer size game with any 6mm cartridge - load up some Nosler Partitions (85 or 100) or Swift Sciroccos.

In this bore size, the 6mm Rem is, to me, by far the most versatile and user-friendly of the lot.

For sheer fun, though, the litle 6mm-.223 (aka 6x45) gets my vote. I've had them in XP and Contender pistols and in rifle format as well, and it's a joy to work with. It's deadly on coyotes and will even work for smaller deer -- and I've used it for that purpose a time or two. Big Grin
