Does anyone sell primed 22 WMR cases? Do they use a healed bullet? Has anyone ever pulled the bullet and replaced the powder with your own load?

With todays ammo supplies, I doubt it. Depends on the load. Nope, not something I am interested in messing with.

No-one that I know of sells primed RF cases to the average punter. CCI MAY and I stress MAY sell to Federal for instance. I have no evidence that they do or don't, I'm just suggesting that manufacturers may sell to each other. No, it is not heeled, like the .22 LR RF. It is a fairly ordinary jacketed bullet. Never heard of anyone doing that. Remember that a RF case is usually pretty thin and the priming compound goes off by crushing the case - in other words, the cases are not great for containing high pressures. What I HAVE heard of is people getting WMR bullets and loading them into Hornets and such when looking for a fast expander. -- Promise me, when I die, don't let my wife sell my guns for what I told I her I paid for them.

the .12 Eichelberger Winchester Rimfire Magnum was designed by Bill Eichelberger to launch a .123 diameter bullet to almost 3500 fps from a rimfire case.... according to my 13th edition of cartridges of the world.... it was necked down, annealed, and trimmed also.... interesting reading....... go big or go home ........ Check this thread Reloading .22 WMR The real problem with the round is the crummy little bullets and the sorry oversized chambers. The SAAMI standards for the Chambers are just to large in diameter and too long. They provide a large oversize fit with too much clearance. http://forums.accuratereloadin...=159108975#159108975

Wasn't their a guy a few years ago reloading a rimfire with C4 and 55gn Sierra projectile. Cannot remember what speed he was getting but was quite fast IIRC. Pete

About 30 years ago I walked into the McBride's in Austin and made my way back to where the firearms and handloading stuff were. I got started talking with the man behind the counter, and he pulled a round out of his pocket and handed it to me. It was a 17 HMR, but obviously wasn't, if you know what I mean. The man was one of those who was playing with the round back when it was a wildcat. He told me that he and some of his friends were pulling the projectiles, reserving the powder, and using a custom cut shellholder and a Rockchucker press with a piece of 1" Lexan bolted to it, were necking down the WMR case to 17, then replacing the powder and seating a 25-grain Remington bullet. The reason for the Lexan should be self-explanatory...

Many years ago I remember reading about someone getting primed 22 LR cases from Federal. He loaded them with his own bullets. Nothing much came out of that I think. It might have been Bill Brawand - I have some of his bullets, and they are absolutely fantastic.

Back in the 1980s I can remember that you could buy primed 22 Long/LR rimfire cases but I haven't seen them since then. Why there is shortage of .22 LR ammo in USA ?

people are hoarding. there were some highly-publicized, tragic shootings, and people anticipated increased gun control efforts. people started buying in anticipation, including ammo. for some reason, .22lr was grabbed up this time, and has yet to reappear in any quantity. people wait in line for stores to open, buy all the .22 there is, and keep it or sell it at a higher price online or at gun shows. damned vultures.

Why not just down load a .22 Hornet?? If you use 7.0 grains of SR-4759 powder with a 40-45 grain bullet; you'll receive .22 WMR ballistics. The .22 Hornet is completely reloadable, while your rimfires aren't. David

There was a small supply of primed .22 LR brass around a couple of years ago, and some of the BPCR boys bought it up and loaded them with black powder to duplicate the original performance. I was impressed. This was on the Shiloh forum. There is hope, even when your brain tells you there isn’t. – John Green, author

It is more of a case of using it for pistol silhouette before the Hornet was permitted. If you have a .22 WMR rifle that does not shoot well it is a way to experiment with it to find out why it does not shoot well.
