I was given an FN PS90 in this caliber. It looks like a neat small caliber, and I am thinking of building a bolt action rifle for it.

If you know how many very strange calibers I have built you will laugh your head off! ![]()

In a rifle it would amount to a modernized Hornet. Not a bad round, with the advantage of heavier, longer lasting brass and no rim. Put it in a sub-mini centerfire action like a Kimber 82 and you'd have a little beauty. Or, a reworked Ruger 77/22H action with a custom barrel would also work.

It is fine for the purpose. That is why I wanted to build a pro[era rifle for it.

Yes i have thought of that round too for a mountain grouse rifle. What magasin can take it? The five-seven mag?

Savage listed it as a caliber for their varmint series rifle.... don't remember the model number. same as the Hornet, 17 hornet and such. It seemed to have been dropped before I made up my mind to get one.

A bang about Mod. 340. would seem to fit. ![]() Old age is a high price to pay for maturity!!! Some never pay and some pay and never reap the reward. Wisdom comes with age! Sometimes age comes alone..

Savage ran it in their model 25 varmint bolt action rifles for awhile. A short light carbine bolt action would work pretty well for a bounce around the truck, UTV, or ATV rifle. The only complaint I ever read on it is it can be real finicky for reloading.

5.7X28 seems to me to just beg for a low wall or small bolt action a modified 581 for instance.

That sounds like a great idea. Doug Wilhelmi NRA Life Member
