Matt if bolt closes with a little resistance at last of bolt closure, with a factory 257 Roberts case is how I test the chamber on an unknown Ackley Imp. rechamber.

If you fireform with a 257 Robts max load any bullet will fireform the case fully..with those light so called fireforming loads use the heaviest bullet.

Actually, though I expressed myself as wishing I had cut a 25-06 chamber for this 25 Ackely, Im having a great time with it as is..Its truly accurate, fast and easy on the shoulder, and I wouldn't hesitate to use it on elk with a 117 or 120 gr. speer or Nosler...A 120 gr. bullet at over 3000 is as deadly as a 270 with a 130 gr. bullet at same velocity!! and what a love on this 84 year old shoulder!! tu2

I like this 257 Ackley Improved a bunch!

Check out molten salt annealling. You can get set up for about 100 bucks and have a temperature monitored system that will do 50 cases in about 5 minutes. Its practically fool-proof. Google Ballistic Recreations molten salt annealling.

Well a fine gentleman on AR gave me a monster of an annealer, good machine that works with two bottles of gas at once, my son has it in Texas and is going to ship it to me..I have cans and cans of old brass that's been shot 6 or 7 times at most, mostly about 5 times I bet.

but Im going to look into this Molten salt annealing thing.

Norm (Randy) on AR gave me a annealer, and my son who lives nearby finally mailed it to me..It is at a frineds house and he is using it and says it works real well, so I will pick it up soon and go to playing with it..Randy (NOrm) is a first class guy for sure, we have done some great deals together on gun trading.

Im also looking at the salt dip method on the internet, its quite the deal for about a $100 bill, I will have to try that one.

Got lucky with my 257 Ackley, the best of both worlds, loaded up a lot of new 257 Robts with 117 and 110 gr. Hornady bullet, some with Sierrias....Use book max 257 Robts loads and wow! talk about accurate, sub .600 average..I have about 200 left to fireform and I just stuck them on the shelf to hunt rock chucks this spring, jack rabbits and coyotes. Maybe even cull some Texas Whitetail if I get down that way this fall..Sure beats having to fireform that many rounds at a single sitting..

I don't like the cornmeal fillers and wax with pistol powder or whatever..rather use cheap bullets like the Hornady which btw is a damn fine game bullet, by cheap I mean less expensive and 100 per box.
