I've heard that the 22-243 Midlestead is a heavy barrel burner, but accurate as hell. I shoot a lot of fox during the winter from my bedroom window at night (my wife loves it!!). And I consider to have my Rem. 700 rebarreled for that caliber. Does anybody have any experience they want to share with me? ------------------ Arild.

If you use your 22-243 Middlested for fox, you will get to kill many animals before you need a different barrel. I have had guys use up a barrel in as little as 800 rounds(prairie dogs) and I have coyote hunters that have almost 2000 rounds, they have said that the are starting to notice some accuracy loss. What gets the 22-243 is rapid fire, and not cleaning as often as one should. www.duanesguns.com [This message has been edited by DuaneinND (edited 08-13-2001).]

460....what you do is burn up the throat first so the key is to get a fairly long barrel and when you feel the accuracy is gone you can get the throat area cut off and have the barrel re-threaded and chambered and get a lot more life out of it.
