I shoot a lot of fox during the winter from my bedroom window at night (my wife loves it!!). And I consider to have my Rem. 700 rebarreled for that caliber.
Does anybody have any experience they want to share with me?
I have a 22-243 Middlested on a Rem 700 Varmit and it is a groundhog and fox killer.
If you have one fixed up try the Berger 30gr.
.224 Moly bullets. I am pushing them @ about
5,050 fps and when they hit there is an entry
hole but know exit hole. It is almost like the .17 Rem but faster. My pet bullet for the Middlested is the Sierra 52 gr. BT Match
bullet. It moves out around 4,300 fps and that is not a maximum load. The Berger Bullet load is not max either. Try the 22-243 Middlested it is a dandy cartridge. OH!
I put a Shilen select Match barrel on my rifle and it has been cut to 26". I do not believe that barrel erosion is as severe with the newer steels that it once was years ago. Try the Middlested and good luck.
