Does anybody have any experience with this round?
what is its effectiveness? and how is it on barrels? ive heard you could get 3700fps with 75gr V-maxs

You might want to consider 6mm RemAI. More bang for the buck.

Used it for years with the 85 grain HPBT which worked great! Used 4831. Good Luck Speed is great but accuracy is better.

I have been shooting the 6-284 for many years in various twists, my current barrel is a 30" Hart .269nk Straight cylinder 1-14" twist, I shoot the 68gr Berger Match at 4272 fps. My load is 61grns R-22 Fed 210 primer, This is my 3rd barrel, they average around 1200 Accurate rounds. Accurate meaning groups well under one half inch. I consider 30" barrel length optimum for the 6-284. If thats a problem stay with the 6mm AI.

Hey Blaine, I remember you wrote about the 100 Nosler out of 6-284 for long-range, any comments on that? I see you've gone lighter and faster now. You ever try that 100 Speer? i think it's got a B.C. of .540 if i'm not mistaken. i've got some of 'em, and they look good. You know, i want a thousand yard dog, even if it's just once in my life.

It is possible that the 6mm Rem. AI might be as good, but in 6mm, for both accuracy and velocity, the 6mm/.284 is very hard to beat. I've had one since 1964 with a Douglas Premium barrel and a Browning FN Mauser action, and it has been super. It still has its' original Leupold 7.5X scope, and will still put five 95 grain Nosler Partition or 100 grain Sierras inot one ragged hole at 100 yards. The 85 grain Sierra shoots as well, and at velocities over 3500 FPS using Norma MRP!!

A good friend has had a .25-284 for over 30 years, and it's quite a performer. No reason 6-.284 wouldn't be also. .284 brass is thick and durable.

However, I agree that the .244 Rem Improved, or the 6mm/06 would both be more economical and give equal performance.

Yup the 100's were just to hard on fur, other than the heavy jacketed stuff but i couldnt get them to group as well, i shot the 80gr Berger for awhile but after shooting out my 10 twist I decided to go with a 14 twist and go lighter on the projectiles, So far i've been real pleased, The accuracy is incredible! high 2's- low 3's at 4250 with the 68gr Berger through the 30" Hart. I'm kinda wanting another barrel in an 8 twist for my 22-284, those 80gr Berger VLD's are a coyotes worst nightmare way out yonder! Hell i thought you already tagged a few out to 1000? I'm counting the days to when i get to put my .17DT back into use. Fur season is only 6 months out and counting down!
