Buddy of mine is trying to help his friend out and check value on a Mauser in 6.5 Rem Mag that he wants to sell. The description I have lacks a few details but I included it below.
"The only markings on the receiver are the
numbers 3043 on the left side. Nothing else, not even on the floor plate. The barrel is 20 inches, and is marked 6.5 Rem Mag, Ranger
Arms, Inc. Gainsville, Texas. The safety is on the front of the trigger gaurd, like on a winchester shotgun. The trigger is normal
width, with normal grooves. The bolt is machined. The scope is a
Redfield Widefield 2X7."
"It's a mauser short action in 6.5 mm magnum, in a thumb
hole manlicher stock. I think it was put
together in the 80s by a gun maker called Ranger Arms, in Gainsville
TX."
Anybody have any thoughts on this?
Thanks

I doubt that it's a Mauser of any kind....

The safety on the trigger guard is something I've never seen on any Mauser.

There will likely be a few interested in a 6.5 Rem Mag but you're going to have to post a photo to get identification.....

I agree!
I have yet to see a picture of it, if I do I will post it here too.
I was kinda hoping someone would recognize the "Ranger Arms, Gainesville TX" gunmaker and be familiar with something they put out.
I did a Gunbroker search for Ranger Arms and came up with one rifle for $18,000 from Ranger Arms that is up for sale.

Ranger Arms was the brainchild of a gentleman named Homer Koons. He built rifles on custom made actions and they are better known as Texas Magmnum. Beautifully made , left and right handed. Even a Single shot! My dad was a friend of his and I still have a few of his gems. Once in a while you see one for sale for 600.00 -or so. If you have one you are truly blessed.

My uncle had the exact rifle - 6.5 rem mag ranger arms. He sold it for $1,200 a few months ago. It was in mint condition. His father bought in the 70's. They were made in north tx and most of the info and collectors I talked to were in this area. We even got info from the Gainesville chamber of commerce. My uncle sold the rifle around Sept. They are kind of rare. Does your friends gun stock have a light brown /dark brown tiger stripe pattern?

If this gun came from the Houston area several months ago, odds are I know it well and you got a jewel. I hated to see him sale it and I didn't have the funds to add it to my collection.
