I'm having a couple of Highwalls built, a 30-40 Krag and a standard .219 Zipper. The Zipper is mostly for nostalgic reasons. I'll have to use other brass for the Zipper, so I'd like to get pointers on making brass from 30-30 or 25-35 and loading the cartridge. I'm getting the rifle made with 1/8 twist so that I can shoot 65 grain bullets if I want to, although I suspect that most of the time I'll shoot 55 grainers. I have many other .22 centerfires, from Hornets to 22-250 Ackley Improved, so I don't need to squeeze the last bit of velocity out of the cartridge. It'll be used as a lightweight walking-around rifle. I'd be very happy with 2800 fps with the 65 grainers and 3000 fps with the 55s. Allan Quick, Cheap, or Good: Pick Two

Any number of older reloading manuals will have info on 219 zipper. I have not done so but I would be willing to be you can do a google search on "reload data for 219 Zipper" and find some stuff. Best GWB

I have an old Speer Manual that has 219 Zipper loads in it. The heaviest bullet listed is the 55 gn bullet. Loads are, for the 55 gn bullet: IMR-4350, 28.0 to 32.o gns IMR-4320, 25.0 to 29.0 gns IMR-4895, 25.0 to 29.0 gns IMR-3031, 24.0 to 27.0 gns If you decide to shoot 50 gn bullets, or lighter, the manual suggest that IMR-4198 is best. If you want lighter weight bullet data, let me know. The Speer manual lists 40 gn bullets as the lightest weight bullet they tested. Don

I shipped the actions off last week to American Gun Company to be completed. They tell me 6 weeks to complete them. I don't believe that for a minute. Six months is probably closer. I have a custom Ruger No 3 in 30-40, so I'm ready with ammo for that rifle. I just found a quantity of 30-30 brass, and 100 new 25-35 cases, and I ordered dies and bullets. I hope I'm ready with ammo by the time the rifles are delivered. Would anyone know if I need to fireform the 30-30 cases or just run them through the Zipper dies? I know I'll have to trim cases, and probably anneal the necks after all that work hardening. Fortunately I have .25-35 dies, so I'll run the cases through those dies first before going to the Zipper dies. Thanks for all the help. Allan Quick, Cheap, or Good: Pick Two
