Saw my first one of the season in a barrow pit on the way home a couple days ago Big Grin. Then it's snowed for the last three days Frowner .
Come on spring clap.

When doing the 40 km drive from the hotel to the farmers field, if I'd have stopped to shoot the gophers by the side of the road, I'd have never made it to the field.
I got into a patch on them and was using my Win 69A, with 10 mags, as fast as I could shoot them off and reload them for 1.5 hours, non stop.
This year I am taking several of my CZ's with 10 and 15 round mags.
The farmer was telling me that he could shoot a whole brick, without having to move, in the early spring. FS

Fasteel here in Montana the 10-22 Ruger is the "State Rifle", each spring the local Cenex has a 7 or 8 ft square, chest high pallet of "cases" of Federal American Eagle .22 LR HP ammo out in the middle of the floor.
In Montana you can tell it's spring cause you can hear Sand Hill Cranes and Geese everywhere, the Robins and Meadowlarks come back and every pasture you drive by has a pickup driving around in it with a rifle sticking out of both side windows. Life is good dancing.

Coopercool
That is quite a collection. Gives new meaning to the term "sporting wood". Beautiful rifles. Ya wouldn't have a .20 VarTarg in there would ya?

Wow and double wow. That is a great collection.
I now own two classics. A model 38 in 22 hornet and a model 21 in 20 tac.
Lets see looks like
classic
custom classic
Jackson game?
custom classic
Montana varmint
custom classic
custom clasic
varmint extreme
Montana varmint

I would guess all with the exception of the first and fourth left to right have upgraded wood.
A collection to be envied

If you've the time and inclination to humor a jr. collector, could you give details as to models and calibers.
Thanks

GWB

Montdoug,

I have been seriously considering a 20 vartarg as my next varmint caliber. I have the 17 fireball, MachIV and the 221 fireball. I have a sako s491 action with a 223 bolt face and a boyds laminated thumbhole stock.

I'm thinking that a 22" medium countour stainless barrel would work well. Add a Leupold or ziess 2.5 x 8 scope and I would have a great walking varminter.
Your thoughts please

Actually that's not true Geedub. What you have is a Sako actioned .20 VarTarg without a barrel on it Big Grin.
My suggestion would be a Pac-Nor Super Match 3 groove stainless in a 1 in 12 twist. My personal take is that round was made for 32 grain V-Max's and that twist is ideal ya might or might not have issues with the 40grain V-Max (probably not) but that's what your .20 Tactical is for anyway IMO. Most .20 VarTargs will run that 32 V-Max at just one side or the other of 3,800fps. Serious rat spreader.
As long as you asked I'd probably bump the scope power a bit myself (very personal decision) to at least a 4.5X14 Leupold, this will be an extremely accurate rifle I'd bet dollars to doughnut holes and for me would be well served with more X.
Hopefully this is acceptable on the site and if not I apologize in advance but I'd also recommend the smith unless you do it yourself. Greg Tannel of Gre'Tan Rifles in Kersey Colorado. He's a small caliber master. He's also on the cover of one of those SCN's magazines we spoke of with a .20 Tactical. In fact I just got off the phone with him not an hour ago talking about a 6X47 Lapua he's putting together for me, (my first "big bore" in a long time Roll Eyes ). He does a ton of sub .22 caliber work and I've never heard a complaint. He did my .20 Killer Bee and a number of others, as well as my .20 VarTarg on a CZ 527 Varmint Kevlar HS Precision stock.

]

5 shots, 100 yards, Nuff said. Smiler

P.S.
That was shot with the 33 grain flat base V-Max Hornady made before they came out with the 32. The 33 was their first .20 caliber bullet now discontinued.

I agree about beautiful and accurate for rifles in general but forget Cooper and his political ambitions.

What a gaffe Dan the Man made with his money we paid him for political campagin contributions.

Yup! But still, no harm in dreaming! Roll Eyes Maybe, just maybe, I will do something one day to have just one gem - even if I have to build it myself over a period of time. But I can't do engraving. Frowner Wood carving, yes. Fine machining, yes. One day maybe. popcorn

AAHH... You guys have more sense than I do. My priorities are all screwed up. I work 60 hrs. a week in the oil field, drive an old 97 Ford 1/2 ton pickup beat to hell...no toys, vacations or dinner out...it all goes to guns. Wife and daughter collect change they find in the Walmart parking lot and dumpster dive on weekends. LOL almost all of that is true jumping

Hey, whats wrong with a 97 ford truck

Mine only has 325,000 miles on it

Cooperscool, I'm glad I'm not the only one that has their priorities straight.
The other evening i stopped counting at 56 centerfire long guns. That does not include pistols, shotguns or guns at my oldest son's house.

I'd just as soon have a cold-water enema as let a cooper on the property. Maybe obama will repay their support with a ban on...

Nothing wrong with your priorities that I can see. Oh, you might send the wife and kids to the drive through windows at McDonalds though, people always drop change there. Wink
