Hi guys, I finally scratched that itch, and bought myself a Remingon 700 Tactical in 223 with a 1:9 twist barrel.. I put a Zeiss 6.5x20 on it, so now I need some of your secret loads to try. facory 55 and 62 grain ammo groups to about an inch, and I tried 25 gr of Varget with the 62 gr bullet and it was about the same as factory. I feel this rifle should be able to do better. anybody got a favorite load your willing to share? Thanks! NRA Benefactor. Life is tough... It's even tougher when you're stupid... John Wayne

Frank, down below there's a thread Favorite Loads-Share Them With Us. Check for .223 there.

It should spin 75 Amax. .435 BC will mimic drop/drift of a lot of the thumpers, without the thump...

I've had a hard time finding IMR 4198 for my Stevens 200 .223. So I tried some LT-32 as a substitute. I love it. Small kernels meter well, and the two loads below shoot to the same POI. If anything, the LT-32 load is more accurate (both are well sub-MOA, absent shooter error). 22.3 gr IMR 4198, 40 VMAX, LC brass, Rem 9 ½ primer, COL 2.245 versus 24 gr LT-32, 40 VMAX, LC Brass, CCI 400, COL 2.250

My 700/223 loves H335 w/ both the 40 & 55g bullets. Be happy to share if you want the data.

Take Bartsche up on his offer. He sent me an encyclopedia of 223 loads a couple years ago. It'll take me most of my retirement to get half way through them all. Si tantum EGO eram dimidium ut bonus ut EGO memor

27.5 grains BL(C)-2 with any 50 grain bullet.....but my favorite has been speer's TNT The Hornady V-Max is also a splendid bullet. /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// "Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery." What itch are you trying scratch, deer, varmint? Oh yeah I don't participate so I forgot Target/Competition (200, 600 or 1000 yds?) 23.5 3031, H335 60 grain NBT waas my plan for whitetail, but I have yet to get in that test. I let some o the test platforms walk by and then neighbor farmer started some ruckus in the field a couple of hundred yards away. End of hunting that spot for the day. Did I ever mention the first purchase after I win the powerball is a piece of land big enough to forget there are neighbors. Little less of both powders (but I was stupid enough to not write it down) so I have no idea how much less, with Nosler's 64 grain bonded core. Light varmint bullets . . . ? Deer season got here before I ironed out that trail. Target . . . Only use them to test hunting loads. Mine is a 1:8, 20" AR platform and like any gun to gun variation your mileage may vary. I tend to buy the toy first, then figure out what to use it for. So for right now, it's just a range toy.. but critters are definitely in it's future, just not sure which ones.. I also tend to prefer bullets that are heavy for the caliber, so I'll likely not shoot anything under 60 grains very often, if at all. NRA Benefactor. Life is tough... Totally agree; used to use that bullet in my Swift, but moved up to 80 grains. That 75 gr bullet will drift half as much in the wind a LWT bullets and be less affected by colder temps as well.

Hey PA. Frank, I'm new to this site but have 3 223 Remingtons, Colt H-Bar, Rem.700 Varmint and a Rem. 788. I shoot factory ammo out of the H-BAR and reload for the Rem's The 700 varmint will shoot 52gr. 53gr. 55gr.bullets with Varget 1/2 inch group @100yards all day long, I clean after 10 rounds, The 788 is the older of the 3 and believe it or not is the most accurate of the with the same bullets but using 4198 powder. You just have to play with this caliber. Life MemberNRA Life Member Purple Heart NRA Instructor, all Phases

If you want to try lighter bullets I had good success with 23gr of Benchmark with 60gr Vmax bullets in my CZ varmint. FS
