I have just traded for a Sauer 202 in 22-250 and am totally new to the caliber, but after todays range visit, I am officially in love.

I loaded up 3 loads to try and all 3 shot incredibly. The loads were 32 gr Varget, 36 gr IMR 4350, 30 gr IMR 4064, and all used Fed 215M primers and 50 gr Nosler BT's.

All loads shot the same "hole" at 100 yards, and I have decided to stick with the Varget load.

If anyone would suggest otherwise, I am open to comments.

The trade has been in the works for awhile, so I had dies and bullets ready to go when I got the gun.

Gotta love it when a plan comes together... Make sure you shoot some more and that the groups are repeatable before you load up too many. Hope you continue to enjoy the 22-250, I've had mine for 16 years and it's still my favorite.

Great, great varmint round! My rifles in 22-250 are my go-to rifles when I don't know what else to bring.

A particularly fast and violent little round, it is my favorite, tho I have no oddball calibers to judge it by. I sure like shooting it.

Sounds like you have real winner! The 22-250 is by far my favorite round to load for. I use light loads too for accuracy, 33.5 grains RE-15 is working real well for me with Sierra 52 gr, hp's.

Jeff I've been spying a nice 22-250 R93 barrel. You may have talked me into it.

I have the Sauer set up as a varmint rig and scoped with a Conquest 6.5-20x50mm, but I just had to try it out this morning and downed a fat doe. I shot her at 120 yards in the neck, and she bounced.

I know there has been some heated discussions about using 22-250 on deer, but my brother has been using one for nearly 20 years and never lost an animal.

I have narrowed it down to three powders in my 22-250, IMR4064, IMR4895, and H380. The IMR4064 shot best in winchester brass, WLR primers, 36.5 gr. of powder, and 50gr hornady v maxes. Work up to that load as its warm, 3940fps in 26" barrel. Good shooting and enjoy your 22-250.

Jeff,

how does that 6.5-20x50 conquest go ??

I need to purchase a new scope for my impneding 22/250 and am considering the conquest 3-12x56 but feel the top end may not be enough.

I had a 6.5-20 leupold on the last one I owned and liked it............I reckon the conquests are brighter.

I do have a MK 4 Leupold there but I dont think I like the mildot reticle for a varmint gun.

I am a huge fan of Conquest scopes, and I really like the 6.5-20. I had a Leupold 6.5-20, and it was not even close to the Conquest in clarity and light collection.

I used to have a Conquest 3-12x56, but it was too large for my taste.

In my opinion, the "perfect" Conquest is the 4.5-14. I have 3 of them, and they are by far my favorite.

It's my favorite of the 22 center fire clan, and unlike some of the other 22s, you don't have to worry about having fat fingers when reloading the 22-250. I probably burn more IMR4895 than anything else, but after 20 years of shooting the 22-250, I still don't have a favorite powder.

Mr buckshot, You must try VihtaVuori N-150 or N-550. I have rebarreled Mauser 98, with heavy and tight camber barrel.

My 250 is one of my most accurate guns I own...A Sako 75, stainless synthetic...Today, while shooting 38 gr. of H380 with a 52 grain match Berger I shot a ragged hole 5 shot group at 100 yards. Winchester Brass and CCI 200 primer. The H380 is a little temperature sensitive when it drops below 30 degrees...I've been thinking of trying Varget because of this.

In addition to being one of the better powders I tried, I like H380 simply because it's a ball powder that flows thru my measure like water. When you're loading up 1000 rounds for a Pdog shoot, weighing only every 10th charge can keep the operation from being quite so tedious.
