I'm considering having built a 7x57 and intend to use some sort of portion bullet, depending on what the rifle finally likes best, of around 140gr. Velocity is a factor in stability also, I get that, but as a starting point, what twist rate am I looking for? Advice most welcome

I would go with 1 in 9". That is pretty standard, and does everything you would want in a 7X57. You might ask to have this moved to the medium bore forum. Jeremy

All 7x57 should have a 1x9, time proven twist for the caliber. It will shoot all weight bullets made for it, or at least all mine have. Ray Atkinson Atkinson Hunting Adventures 10 Ward Lane, Filer, Idaho, 83328 208-731-4120 rayatkinsonhunting@gmail.com

FWIW, have a Ruger tang safety and a Marlin XL that have both been rebarreled to 7x57 with 1/10 twist heavy barrels. Presently am shooting 168 gr Nosler custom competitions in them with pretty good accuracy.
