260 Rem Conversion

I need some opinion here. I have a long action FN that was originally a 25-06AI- aperverse cartridge if there ever was one. A gunsmith friend wanted to play with the 260 Rem when it first came out and prevailed on me to rebarrel this rifle to 260. He then died amd the plans changed.
It seems a waste of a long action FN to me. It is a heavy barrel gun. What can I convert it to and utilize the action length without having to rebarrel again?
It's a great barrel on a great action but underutilized. What about a "260 Weatherby Mag"?

i agree with the 6.5-06, it should have been what winchester brought out in 1925 i think, it is a bad mofo. i am thinking about rebarreling my model 700 titanium 30-06 to a 6.5-06. i already have a 260 though so i doubt that will happen.

6.5/06 is a good hoice you have a long action and 6.5/06 is a 06 family cartridge , performance is very good ( accuracy/velocity ) and that not costly caliber and you doesnt need fireforming

I use 6.5/06 for long range shooting and hunting

good shooting

Thanks! I didn't know to go with the 6.5-06 or the 6.5x57. You solved my problem.

If you want to stay away from a wildcat you could go with the 6.5mm Swedish Mauser. It is just a bit too long for the short actions but work just fine in long actions.
They give more velocity than the 260, and are much easier on barrels than the 6.5-06.
Excellent quality brass is available.
You can buy ammo right off the shelf.

if yu plan to go in 6.5x57 request a short throat chamber original throat is very deeeeeeeeep ( far deeper as a Weatherby ) nd accuracy not really amazing if you compare to the accuracy potential of your barrel there is chamber (PPG drawing ) name 6.5x57 match , I have one made one JGS CIP rework with std lead and throat and accuracy is very good but case ( RWS ) are far costly than 06 and 06 from Lapua are the very best ( with sako )

good shooting
