And you may become the "next" Blue Dot Ka-Boom. Already had two Ka-Booms and at least 5 people mention how erratic the Powder becomes when used incorrectly as described.

Best of luck to you folks.

HotCore, somehow your quote thing has attributed the load to me.. not so.. I was questioning the load, for pretty much the same reason as you describe.

Hey Rugeruser, Just plucked it where I spotted it. Had no desire to tie it to anyone and should have deleted the "Posted by".

These Blue Dot Loads will get someone Killed yet. It is amazing how Bad info gets passed around as if it is a miracle and Good info has to fight to get into peoples heads.

By the way, rebarreling a M7 to a 221FireBall would work for you folks that are determined to have one. Or you should be able to special order one from the Remington Custom Shop in any configuration you desire.

I can see where the rebarrel option might appeal better to you being in Australia.

I been following this thread for a while and as it has centered on 2 of my favorite rounds I thought I'd add something if possible.
I'm not gonna die on the "Blue Dot" hill again as I have in the past, Hot core is doing it for me and I agree with him wholeheartedly.
As to the Hornets are junk theory Roll Eyes, that's been handled nicely as well. I have had two CZ Hornets, ones a .17 Ackley Hornet now and the other is a .22 K-Hornet. Both were legitimate sub half inch rifles with the newer components (Lil'Gun and 40 V-Max's) as straight Hornets and both are better than that now after being converted. I've also got hiding in my safe two Anschutz Hornets, ones a rifle and one is the old Exemplar handgun they discontinued in 84. Both are 54 actions and both (10 inch barreled handgun included) are solidly sub half inch firearms. I'm going to resist the urge to post beau-coup self aggrandizing and gratuitous pictures of dinky little groups to back up those claims. Suffice it to say the statement that "there are no flies on the newer Hornets" absolutely nails it in my experience.
Go figure Confused, one fella has never seen a good one and another has had 4 and never seen one that wasn't just a pip!! Luck of the draw I guess (personally I think the CZ/Anschutz equation plays into it).

As to the .221 I've been messing with since I bought my first one for just a titch over a hundred bucks new in the box all the way to my latest which is a CZ 527 American which is another half inch rifle (probably better if I was 30 again CRYBABY ), I've never seen or heard of one that did that to cases so again I'd agree with the post that stated that is a rifle problem and certainly not a problem inherent to the .221 cartridge itself.

For some reason these threads always end up with someone saying his favorite is the king of all rounds and some other guys favorite is garbage, HOGWASH!!!! The .222 is a fantastic round as is the .223 as is the .22 Hornet/ K-Hornet as is the .221 Fire Ball. Comparisons are certainly valid but crowning a winner as a great round and a looser as junk is in my opinion silly beyond measure. With that in mind I thought I'd post this loading manual excerpt on the .221 Fire Ball. Please note the fact that the .221 has higher SAAMI specs for allowable pressure and by doing that allows .222 performance out of the smaller case. Note also the AA1680 40 grain data that a poster above mentioned. In my CZ I'm under that max load with a 40 grain V-Max and 1680 and my working load has repeatedly chrono'd just a titch under 3,6000fps. It's a titch over 3,600fps if I load the "max" load which is safe in my particular rifle with the specific lot of AA1680 I have.
That's my 2 cents anyway, I love the .221 a lot and the .222...223...Hornet etc. etc.

I'd say you nailed it. My old 22Hornets were M43 Wins and one T/C Contender Carbine. And the newer components might have made all the difference in the worl
