Reloader 7 and .223 Remington?

Has anyone had any luck with this combination? I'm looking to use 55 grain V-max bullets and getting somewhere around 3000 fps in a 16" AR-15.

I would like to be able to use RL 7 because I already use it for my most accurate loads in .45-70. I've seen some data using RL-7 for .223 but not much. What is the drawbacks of this powder in small caliber rounds?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated,

R7 is pretty fast for 55 grainers in the 223. Doubt if you could get 3,000 in a 16" barrel with 55's without excessive pressure.

If you can still find any R12 (better hurry, cause every gun shop I find that has it, doesn't have it when I leave [Smile] ), that will be much better. R15's a good one, as are W748, H335, H4895, Varget, TAC, and AA2230-C.
