.416/.240 Weatherby
I got to playing around in QuickDesign today. I was wondering if any one had heard of a similar wildcat before. I drafted mine with the nominal 2.5" case length, and a 3.25" COL. QuickLoad is saying 350 grainers from a 20" barrel at about 2150fps/3590fpe. Between the OAL and the belt/case head size it would drop right into any 8mm Mauser. I was think along .600ok/.550mag lines for this one, only on a much smaller scale.

hey KB...
this case has/had suckered me in a couple times

the 240 w is more or less the same case cap as a 30-06, with a belt...

the rest means you've just redesigned the 411 hawk???

Yep! a 411 Hawk! Although, this one has a belt, so headspace for case forming sure isn't a problem. But, given the price of 240 Weatherby brass compared to 30-06 brass, that isn't much of a big deal. Also, Fred has 411 Hawk brass available.

How's this for a coincidence, I was talking with one of my instructors today about this cartridge, and it turns out that one of the former heads of the programn has had a reamer for this made years ago, and that one of the other current instructors is the current owner of that reamer. Since I am staying in the area, to open a gunsmithing business, I think I will have to barrow that reamer down the road some time and make me one of these. The name on this reamer is the .416 Ross Express.

I used 30-06 cylinder brass left at 2.65" and a 411 bullet called it a 400PDK and discussed here numberous times. Did it years ago with necked up 280 brass at 2.5" and a 416 bullet. Fossdale did it with the 240 and I believe a .429. His has been on here and I believe ammoguide.

As Jeff said the 240 is pretty much an 243-06 with a belt.

Never reformed the 240 but I never had great luck reforming other double radius Weatherby brass.

I have six boxes of once-fired 240 Wby brass. You want to play with this puppy, make me a halfway decent offer and it is yours.
