boom sticknon rebated wsm's!...not reeelly...ruger short action wildcats
what do you guys think of ruger short actions???
either a 2 or 2.1" versions of the .532 casehead 375 ruger...
it should have an 30-06 case volume or more...
i think using shortened ultramag dies and using ultramag reamers to short action lengths might work
to give you an idea of performance it should be 10% more case capacity than the 350 rem mag.
it will be less than wsm's but no rebate.
i think the 375ruger short action 375 r.s.a. would be a neet one. it should give 376 steyer performance.
using ultramag reamers ect you could make a
7mm r.s.a.
30 r.s.a.
338 r.s.a.
375 r.s.a.
i think the 35 version would be the most versitile and give better performance than the whelen and 350 rem mag. in a 350 rem mag the good thing would be keeping the barrel and having a .532 bolt face.
like most wildcats there is no reeeel need for them but they are fun to play with.
is this possible to use rum reamers or a slightly altered one???
one interesting point is that wsm's never came out in 338 358 and 375...
the 375 rsa would be what the 376 steyer shoulda

prof242I have a .338-.300 WSM. Why call it that rather than the .338WSM? Winchester put out an early diagram for the the .338WSM, RCBS made the dies, Win didn't follow through...and the cartridge was sufficiently shorter than the .300 WSM that the dies causes extreme headspace and damage. RCBS tried to recall all their .338WSM dies, but there are still a lot out there.
I love the idea of the Ruger .532 case used in short actions. It should preclude the feeding problems that many have had with other WSM cartridges. Ever since the late 60s I've wondered why why why someone didn't come out with this beltless configuration. The .284 Win might not have acheived the success its had if a 2.00-2.100 case of .532 had been out.

boom stickthanks for validating my wildcat disease

just over the 06 case volume is all you will need
you could move the barrel back a turn and rechamber the wsms and have the right bolt face to make the ones in wsm cals...
i think it will be perfect for the 350 rem mag rig and not be underpowered for the 250's and 270's
may the r.s.a.'s come to be...
i am sure someone will make them soon enough...
will you be the first?
using rum reamers and dies would be awesome...
the 450/400 and 404 jeffe reamers can be used for the big bore versions.
the 411 r.s.a. would be a neet woods gun with its pistol bullets.

boom stickp.s.
loaded to the mid 40,000 psi these can work in marlin lever actions...

STW_fanmaybe im wrong but i dont think you could shorten a RUM die that much. Ive already pondered it and i think its not threaded far enough up the die body. im just guessing though cause i dont have a set on hand.

boom sticko.k. custom dies might be in order but the idea is still valid i think. thanks

.366torqueI don't see a problem with marginal rebates. It's the 425 WR's that leave me

.366torqueAs for short cases I truelly believe Lazz got it right. A 9.3 on his case would be the ideal short barreled rifle!

.366torqueIt might be the Scotch talking but I think another company, like Ruger should make a deal with Lazz on the short carts.

I chopped a 338 RUM size die down and have used it to form 2.2 and 2.5" cases from 300 and 375 RUM brass.(for my 325x2.5" Mauser) It did have a problem with forming a sharp ridge on the base of the case. I put it in the lathe and put a small bevel at the base, then polished it abit. It works fine now.
Is there that much of a difference with the case head size to cause any problems?

boom stickwith all the hoopla over the 338 federal...
this would be better than the 338-06 and a short action without the feeding issues of the rebated wsm's!
a perfect non overpowered short action cart!

boom sticki was thinking about how cool it would be to take a short action 260 rem and rechamber to a 260 ruger short action! 200 more fps fer shure!
