I have a Remington 799 in 7.62X39, it shoots accurately enough but it difficult to extract due to a very rough chamber.
My plans are to first try and polish the chamber and see if that works. If not my gunsmith has a 7.62X39 A.I. reamer and that should smooth it out. I have heard that instead of getting a custom die made for $$$ a 6PPC bushing neck die can be used with the appropriate bushing for the 7.62. Does this sound right?

Has anyone here done a 7.62X39 A.I./30PPC?

i would do it as 311ppc, and get redding bushing 6ppc die... you can measure youre current neck for bushing... called redding

311 PPC, I like the sound of that.
The specs on the rifle say it has a .311 bore and a 1/9.5 twist so it should stabilize heavier bullets. With the improved it should beat 30/30 velocities.
Bruno's Shooters Supply is here in the Phoenix area and they have the dies and bushings in stock, they can set me up. And I have to say they know me by name when I go in there.

Mark, most, but not all, AI cases have a 40 degree shoulder. The PPC is 30 degree. I don't know for sure that the PPC die will work for this project.

I have done more research. From CH4D I can get a proper die set for $81. That would be less than the Redding type S and the bushing and be the right tool.

Do a search on Benchrest.com. Jackie Schmidt and others have made and shot this wildcat. Very accurate with 110 grain bullets, but is touchy about the loads.

So what happens when you shoot steel cased(wolf) ammo in an Ackley chamber? Does the case fire-form or just split?

I suspected it would be very accurate, the 22, 6mm, 7mm, 30 BR series all are good. 22, 6PPC, 6.5 Grendel are both good. 7.62x39 AI should follow suit.

Steel cases- I don't have or use them. If someone fires one in my gun it must have been stolen. I could have my smith etch "No Steel Cases" when he remarks caliber.

I just gave my 270PPC or 270X39 AI barrel, dies and rounds to James Anderson. It is a very accurate kids deer cartridge.

270PPC would be sweet.

So many are enthralled with super high velocity and say they are going to hunt at some very long range that they (and the industry) miss out on the value of a medium velocity cartridge. With most hunting at under 200 yards they are just the ticket. No bad recoil, not real loud and easy on barrels.
