Found this wildcat mentioned in an article on the 348win. I am some what of a 348 queer and did some looking but have found nothing on it. I am just looking for info. “I am an American; free born and free bred, where I acknowledge no man as my superior, except for his own worth, or as my inferior, except for his own demerit.” Theodore Roosevelt (1858 – 1919)

Wolfe Publishing's _Rifle_ and _Handloader_ and their compendiums on wildcats and big bore rifles have had many articles on 348 wildcats over the years. Perhaps their index would help you find some useful back issues? Good hunting!

Dick: P.O. Ackley's Handbook contains info on this wildcat. Basically the cartridge is the .348 Winchester which is improved and necked up to accept .35 caliber bullets. Here is some sample data from Ackley's book: 180 gr. bullet 67 gr. 4064 = 3007 fps 200 gr. bullet 67 gr. 4320 = 2817 fps 220 gr. bullet 66 gr. H380 = 2597 fps 250 gr. bullet 63 gr. H380 = 2564 fps Says Ackley: "this cartridge should prove to be the best of the family of cartridges based on the 'improved' .348 case." Hope this helps Jordan

Thanks for the info. I should have thought of Ackley's books. I realy need to get to the woods! “I am an American; free born and free bred, where I acknowledge no man as my superior, except for his own worth, or as my inferior, except for his own demerit.” Theodore Roosevelt (1858 – 1919)

I would have thought the 450 Alaskan was the best in this line - only because of bullet choice

I would so love a 350-348 short, to fit in a Marlin. Seems to me, the 30-cal version would be the best, assuming you could get some good 150g and 200g FN bullets for it. Cum catapultae proscriptae erunt tum soli proscript catapultas habebunt.

What action are you considering? Years ago I saw a .35/348 AI built on the Siamese Mauser.

Jim Busha built two lines of cartridges based on the .348 Win converted to rimless and improved to 40 degree shoulders. His Heavy Express Magnum .350 HE Mag is reported by him to do the following: 200 gr bullet at 3,050 fps MV 225 gr 2,950 250 gr 2,860 This data was taken from a bolt gun with a 24" barrel in Colorado Springs (6,000 ft elevation) at 15' from the muzzle. jim if you're too busy to hunt, you're too busy.

Right, wasn't that the 2.8" round? Pretty much the WSM Imp. Cum catapultae proscriptae erunt tum soli proscript catapultas habebunt.

The .350 HE Mag used a 2.25" case, 40 degree shoulder and 3.1" overall length. I expect Jim B. would say the WSM is a variation of his cartridges. jim if you're too busy to hunt, you're too busy.
