9.3 X 62 necked to .308

What do you call this? Anybody done it?
Looking for something to clean up an oversized 30-06 chamber. Oversized in width at the base.

Is the '62 any wider at the base than the '06? Certainly wider at the shoulder.

9.3x62 necked to 30 is esentually a 30GIBBs and adds app 150fps to the 30-06(I think),I am useing norma 9.3x62 cases to make 35GIBBs but i dont know how much it would cleanup the chamber, how much is it oversize?

Yes, the 9.3 case is wider at the base - it is a very slight example of a rebated rim.

Do you have enough neck length left?

As best I can measure the chamber casting at close to the base. with a .0001 barrel mic, it's 4.760 ( make that .4760) otherwise a whopper of a case.

then at the shoulder .4451

at base of neck .3474
at end of neck .3472

When I shoot Winchester factory ammo I get a bulge at .3" from the base measuring .4720

wouldn't gain but like 4 grains of water, I believe..... I could be wrong, but the gibbs has 71 and the 06 has 68....

if it was 9.3x64 bren. it would be a huge diff...

let's call it LESS than a 30-06 AI?

Trigger, have you thought about setting the barrel back a thread or two and just rechambering it for the 30-06 again?

Mike D, how much spare brass are you willing to part with and what price?

Vip

I don't have enough barrel shank left to rechamber in 06 or 06AI. It needs to be cut back about 3/8 of an inch to clean up. Only got a 1/4 inch of shank showing.

Not sure what I'm going to do with it. Leaning toward rebarrel to an 06 based cartridge.

It's not a wildcat but the obvious choice is 300 win mag.

FYI

Z-Hat.com makes wildcats based on the 9.3x62 case. The base was reduced to .470 so they could use 30-06 brass for cases.
