I read in a local magazine about new wildcats being developed in Australia. The intent is to shorten the cartridges to standard action lengths.

The gentleman developing these is Clem Stephenson and Malcolm Wright. They call their wildcats the Stalker wildcats. They currently have a .375 and .404(.423") and are working on .416 and .458 calibers.

According to the article the .375 Stalker has a muzzle velocity of 2475 fps with a 300gr bullet and the .404 Stalker 2125 fps with a 400gr bullet.

Sounds interesting!

Does any one have more info?

Dakota, Remington and others (right here on AR) may have already beat them to the idea. Look at the Dakota line of cartridges as well as the Remington Ultra Mags.

the 416, 458, and 470 AR are the top end of this.

frankly, the 404 dakota and the 375 ruger obviate any needs for those bullet diameters

There was an article in the Sep Australian Shooter's Journal about these cartidges. They are simply a straight neck up of the 300 WSM to 375, 404 (423) and 458. They are purposely loaded down, with pressures in the 40-50k psi range. The concept being a big bullet at medium velocities gets the job done without fuss. The following loads were tabled:

375 300 gr Hornady 70 gr W760 MV 2475
404 400 gr Woodleigh 70 gr W760 MV 2125

If you want to talk to them their phone no. is +612 6337 5374.
