Never owned one but the 8mmx30-06 always made a lot of since top me inasmuch as thousands of old nice 8x57 Mausers have been available for many years and the 8mm on the 06 case is a rechamber only and the velocity and bullet weight are equal to the 338-06, and that ain't all bad..Certainly a very practical wildcat, something that can't be said for the majority of them. You just made a good case for the 338-06. (PS later: I missed the point about using an old 8mm barrel.
