Gentlemen

I going to attempt to gather information from the vast experience on this forum

I've picked up a 416 Barrel at the right price

Doner action and rifle is a Winchester featherweight in WSM

What options would you consider. The obvious solution would be a 416 WSM but this is just too "ordinary"

I was thinking of a 2.25 inch RIGBY case improved and necked to 416, surely this has been done

what say you ?

regards
S&F

i hadn't .. a zillion years ago i was on a 2.5" case/rigby.

Michael458 416 BM is pretty awesome, I think he cuts off 300 rums at the shoulder and forms from there.

Or, make it travel .300 more and do the 416 AR (heh)

opinions vary band of bubbas and STC hunting Club

S&F,
Given the difficulty in getting anything oddball chambered up in anything aproaching reasonable time ... I'd be more inclined to send the action/barrel to Clem Stevenson and ask for a 416 Australian Stalker (416/300WSM) and a set of dies. 2 months later your shooting. Anything that approaches a tough feeding job will sit on most 'smiths shelves for quite awhile.
Cheers...

Michael458's B&M series is perfect! Its a bit longer (2.25" case) specifically designed for the M70 WSM actions. They have a 3.1" magazine length so you have the room to play with a longer cart.

If you think every possible niche has been filled already, thank a wildcatter!

Well if you were in the US we could have you shooting a 416 B&M in about 6 weeks, maybe less. However, you do present an issue in your location. In particular since you have barrel in hand and rifle in hand.

I have a pal over in Australia that is having one of my 50 B&Ms done here. He is visiting at the end of September and will be taking his back with him. He has permission and working on whatever paperwork he needs now. But I have his rifle and will be sending it to SSk to get it ready by then.

As milehigh states, the 416 B&M is my 416 version ready made for a Winchester WSM action. It is a 2.25 inch case-cut 300 or any Ultra case to 2.240 inches-below the shoulder-and form in your die set from either hornady or RCBS-have them on hand-trim and start shooting. Have basic brass already cut on hand also. In addition to that have proper headstamped brass from Quality too.

I don't know what issues you would run into sending the rifle and barrel this way? Getting back to you does not seem to be an issue, my pal in Australia says there is an exporter in Montana that is very reasonable to go through.

However you might find it easier to have the work done on your end.

Currently all my 416 B&M data is with 20 inch barrels. I have an 18 inch barrel in the works currently since I have had such good success with the 50s and 458 B&Ms in 18 inch barrels. With a 20 inch tube the 416 B&M can run 400s at 2300 fps--350s at 2450 fps-300s at 2650 fps and be well under pressure limits.

FYI

Michael
