Yes a small shoulder but hey... the 400 whelen and 10.75x68 works
If you use the Herrett dies and reamer to 6.8 SPC length you have the 357 SPC.
Similar to the 358 Gremlin that is now in development thanks to Fireball.
Seems the only issue is mags.
The 357 SPC AKA 357 Grim Reaper should do 35 rem ballistics too.
Can someone help me with what the shoulder angle on the Herrett is? I saw a refference for 30 degrees and want to confirm.
A 35 semi auto AR15 is a coooool thing

Just imagine a 35 barrel

The ruger mini 14 in 6.8 SPC makes for a tempting conversion.

.366torqueOr you can turn the rim down on 375 Win brass. With 375 brass you can play with the length as well.
Make a good brush gun, boom.

boom stickThanks RR
Torque... yes, the same for 30-30 but I think using 6.8 SPC, 25 Rem and 30 Rem brass would be easier.

.366torqueYes, however the 375 Win is very strong brass! Easily capable of 50,000 psi!

boom stickThanks for the info Torque...
From my understanding in an ar15 or mini 14 you would want to keep the preasure to under 45k psi right?
I figure 80 thou longer and 40 thou fatter case over the 357 Maximum is a good thing...
CQC and anti personel out to 300 yards. Beyond 300 yards you want a sniper rig imho. maybe a custom bullet for long range subsonic sniper fire.
This and the Gremlin are designed for AR15's and micro bolt actions to give 35 Rem performance. would be a great black bear/hog round.

boom stick http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wmO0pZODBqUhere you can see the Russian OC-14 9x39 Groza with a 40mm underneath.
The fatter tube lends to better efficiency with a shorter barrel.
This and the Gremlin are similar concept/developments.

Yep! I wasn't thinking. Massive brain fart up here. You're deffinatly on the right track boom!
I'd personally go with the Mini 30, Black Rifles cause a stir up here!
Also there's a bit more to the aftermarket for the Mini 14s and 30s.
Give it about 16 1/2 inches for the barrel and it'll turn tight in the thick stuff.

.366torqueHey picture this, a 7.62x39 necked up to 338 with Barnes TTSX in 160 grn. I'm loving it! (copywrighted but necessary)
boom I know you a 358 nut but this combo would rock!!
Coming soon to a Mini 30 near you.

boom stickA couple things...
Most of the functional impact velocities are too high except for target shooting and the bullets are longer from tip to canalure.
The light ttsx might be ok along with cast.

fireball168I think Marty has done this one already, I can't remember the name of it 35 HRT I want to say.
Can't find it on his website though.
As I recall you can use 35 Herrett dies without any concern.

boom stickmarty as in 458 socom teppo jutsu (?) marty?
It would be cool to see this if it has been done.

fireball168Yep

boom stickI saw the 30 HRT but not the 35.
I would like to see the max length on the case around 1.68 instead of 1.61 on the 30 HRT for maximum case capacity.
Being that the case is small that extra 70 thou is important and considering that this design would be for the shorter 35 rem and pistol bullets the extra length would be ok loaded out to 2.3". To match the 358 Gremlin performance would be the goal.
Great minds think alike

boom stickMarty said he did not do the 35. It would be interesting to see if anyone has done this.

30hrrttI looked at this a while back and thought it would be great. Higher preassure, smaller head, easier forming with shorter neck. But I tried expanding a few, first with 30 and then with 35 caliber expander. Probably need some in between or anneal the brass. They all split.
25 October 2008, 08:14
boom stickThe easiest thing to do would be to use trimmed 25 Rem brass
