I believe the 338/300 is the same as the 338 Edge. There is a HUGE following. 358 no idea.

Mine does 2830 fps with 92 grains of H1000, Rem case, 215M and a 300 SMK. 30" Hart barrel.

My .358x.404 IMP. which is very close to 358/300ultra will push a 250 grain bullet safely at over 3100 fps. roger

Had the .358X.404 IMP out Wed.It really isn't any fun to shoot anymore.
Bullet 250grain PSP., WLRM primers,Norma cases, OAL = 3.845".

96.2grains H 4831, not hot, 2831 to 2867 fps., 1" group at 50 yds.

97.2 grains H 4831, not hot, 2909 t0 2966 fps., 1" group at 50 yds.

96.1 grains WXR, not hot, 2892 to 2934 fps. not hot 3/4" group at 50 yds.

97.1 grains WXR, mild, 2966 to 2994 fps. 1/2" group at 50 yds.
The group sizes were large because of the shooters recoil anticipation .
This same bullet has been driven at close to 3200 fps.. With cartridges that were unintentionally baked in the sun 3200 fps, was reached but there were pressure signs. roger

What do you plan on using said cartrige for? For strictly hunting purposes, i dont see going any larger than a 338 RUM or the 8mm STW. That being said, my 338 Edge sports a 30in finished barrel length plus the muzzle brake.

Wildcats that essentially duplicate a readily available factory cartridge are a questionable choice. Given the bullet choices for the 338 RUM (or Lapua if you're rich) it is hard to see and advantage with either wildcat. The bullet choice in 338 is far greater than 35. If you can't get it down with a 300 gr bullet from a RUM or Lapua, you can always move up to the 338/378 Weatherby and really go for a detached retina.
And don't buy the "more accurate" story. My 338 RUM with 300 gr Bergers will do 1/2 MOA with FIVE shot groups.
For a classic wildcat, there is always the 35 Griffin & Howe if you have a spare square bridger magnum Mauser action gathering dust.

Forgot to say my velocity, with 300gr Berger hybrids, I max out at about 2950FPS using H1000

Well that is good to hear as I was calculating 3000 with my 36" and Retumbo. The Bore Techs being lighter with a better BC should really scream. Trying it today with aligned Bergers 300s (That Hornady tool really works) some old 250 gr Xs and 185 TSXs (just for grins).
BTW realized it's a varmint not F class stock.

Do the 338...if you're wanting to launch heavy bullets that fast you're obviously looking for a long range gun. 338 bullets have a better BC and are vastly superior for hunting at extended distances.

I think the 338-300RUM was created soon after the 300RUM came out, and the official 338RUM arrived quite a bit later and was made shorter for some reason. I think that explains why there is a wildcat that essentially duplicates a factory round. I'm not sure why they made the 338RUM shorter, maybe for magazine length.

Anyway, I shoot the 338-300RUM and I'm getting 2710fps with 300gr SMK, a case full of WC860 BMG surplus powder (106gr iirc), and a 26" barrel. You can get more speed with something like retumbo or 570. As has been mentioned, the 338-300RUM is also known as the edge and there is lots of info available out there, or 338RUM data could probably be used as well. The 338 lapua is also about the same thing, just more expensive brass and receivers.
