according to Ackley's book;

87 gr bullet - 57 gr 4831
100 gr bullet - 52.5 gr 4831 or 58 gr H450
120 gr bullet - 51.5 gr 4831 or 56 gr H450
139 gr bullet - 50 gr 4831
140 gr bullet - 47.5 gr 4350 or 54 gr H450
160 gr bullet - 48 gr 4831 to 52.5 gr 4831 or 61.5 gr of H870 or 52 gr of H450
200 gr bullet - 61.5 gr H870.

The 200 gr bullet was an original Barnes and used with 1-7 and 1-5 twist barrels.

I would be extremely cautious about this data, start low and work up. I can only assume because of the age of the book that P.O. means surplus 4831 and 4350. The current versions of these powders are not identical in burning rate, so tread lightly. FWIW - Dan

Sask_Hunter,
Where did you locate the dies for this project?
Have been looking and couldn't find them at a reasonable price.
Thanks for any information.

You can neck size this after fire forming, and be a happy camper. Or at least a smiling hunter

How close are the dimensions to the BJAI, compared to the Arch?

CAUTION

ARCH design have a shorter neck SO you are no able to direct fire form regular 6.5x55 in ARCH chamber without too much headspace

regular way for forming ARCH is
open the neck to 30 cam
full size with full sizer to get a secondary shoulder ( neck 6.5/neck 30 ) to be able to set the headspace
use a light fire form load with medium burning rate powder as 3031 or 4895 , DOESNT USE ball powder

44 shoulder doesn t rest a lot the neck so take care when resizing to doesn t bump the neck in the case

Die can be get from CH4D

good shooting

i was thinking about useing the hornady neck die and getting something to seat the bullets with. but i might look into getting a set of custom dies as well.

Thanks for the fallow up Dan Tec..

Well I now know the Arch has a shorter neck than the BJAI.

After creating a false shoulder, fire forming, you can neck size only. Custom dies are really not totally necessary...
Lee makes a set of neck dies for the 6.5x55. If you set the correct depth, it will work.. There is also a seating die included in the three-piece set. I think I paid no more than 25 dollars for mine.
Another option would be check out the 264 win mag. It could possible be modified to fill your needs.

Hey Dan Tec.. Could you share more info on the Arch version of the 6.5x55?

Happy camper again....
