Hey everyone,I'm new to this forum but it looks like a super nice place. I was just wondering if the 22BR has any real advantages over similar cartridges such as the 22-250. Any info on this cartridge would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Al Turkey Hunting Fanatic!

The 22BR is a fanstastic cartridge, and will all but duplicate what a 22-250 can do with less powder. But you can't buy brass for it, you have to re-form 6BR brass. Dies are available, so that's not a problem. If you're willing to do the brass prep, you won't be disappointed.

Thanks rws, I'll probably end up building one on a savage short action later this summer. Will the rounds feed properly or will I have to single load? Thanks for the help! Al Turkey Hunting Fanatic!

I can't say, I only use single shots, or single feed. Some have said a 6BR will feed OK, but again, I haven't tried it.

There was an article on th 22br in handloader a few years back, but I don't recall which issue. The upside of the 22 br is it should be slightly more accurate then a 22-250, provided a good smith is used to chamber the rifle. __________________________________________________ The AR series of rounds, ridding the world of 7mm rem mags, one gun at a time.

Not yet... I was just at my gunsmith's place BSing a Saturday afternoon away. He is planning on chambering it tomorrow. I have loaded about 15 rounds for it, so that he can test fire it when it's finished. I'll let you know when I pick it up next week how it does once I get it to the range....

al- Just an update, I didn't forget. Stopped by my buddy's last night. Due to some stuff coming up (and him knowing that I don't care if it takes three more months to get my rifle back ), it's still not ready. He's got it threaded and fit up in that regard, just need this little hole drilled in the back to stick the cases into. Maybe this week/weekend...

Remember that Norma-Lapua brass has a different base dimension than Remington. You will have to use brass and dies that match his reamer. Double check 6BR forum on this. Butch

Thanks for the heads-up Butch. You certainly are correct, and a lot of guys miss this. Does anyone know WHY the same cartridge has different dimensions? Who was first? Who changed it? Why? But, I "think" (there I go again... ) that I'm set. I'm using Rem brass, and the reamer is supposed to be sized appropriately. I put a micrometer across the flutes to get a reading as best I could, then checked my brass, and it looks good so far. I guess I'll have my fingers in my ears though when we test fire the first round through it!

Well let see here Remington was the first out with 6br and 7br brass then came Norma then last was Laupa. Rem made 40x rifles in both 6br and 22br and then had tight necks. They also made a limited run of custom rifles in model 7 in 7br had a standard neck like what was used in the XP pistol. When the LVD bullet hit the market alot of LR guys were using the 6x284 about that time the 6BR Norma case hit the market and the rest is history. The right case and the right bullet. When the 6br and 22br hit the market BR guys were running out of sako brass for the ppc and alot was done trying to get both to shoot like the 6ppc. I still have two 6br shortentalldogs. I never did mess with the shorten 22br. I was shooting a 22 walldog(shorten 22 pppc) back then. Alot tried to form 6ppc brass from 7.62x39 cases back then also. When Laupa 220 russian brass finally got here that all but sealed the end of the Br case in the BR game. Norma just expanded on a good case. Just alittle bit of history on the br case as I remember it. Well good luck. VFW

Al- Picked it up today.... It looks good, and my gunsmith seemed real pleased with it. He test fired it, and the case looks perfect. I still have to put it back in the stock, but with any luck, I'll get to shoot it this weekend. I'll let you know!

Al- It's a shooter! I put 15 rounds through it this morning. I spent no particular care on "matching" them to the rifle; actually I loaded them before it was chambered so that my buddy would have something to test fire it with. I just put 30 grains of Varget in the cases, and then loaded five each of Sierra's 53 gr MatchKing, Nosler's 55 grain BT, and some old (as in 20 years old...) Nosler 52 gr HP Match. I used the recommended OAL length in the manual, and went with that. So no powder experimenting, charge weight differences, seating depth changes or seated to this chamber's depth, etc. The rifle had no problem shooting slightly sub-half-MOA at 100 yards. Got nice groups of about .485" on average from the three different loads. It looks like it definitely has potential, especially once I start fine tuning the load to the rifle! You need to get building on yours.
