If the original body taper was kept, it seems a straight case to 404 could be a cheap wildcat to make. Headspace off the extractor or case mouth needed obviously. Worthy wildcat?

10.75 x 61 Haenel was done in 1906 which is pretty much the same thing.

9.3x70. 404 case necked down to 9.3.

First one was for Goering, one of Hitler's henchmen. Goering used it for Red Deer. Harold Wolf had an article about this rifle and cartridge in one of the Hatari Issues.

I built one on a M70 around 20 years ago, below are the dies, but I do not have a photo of the rifle. Have cartridges somewhere I will dig one out and take a photo.

I have the reamers and a No 4 9.3 barrel 29 inches long. I plan on making one for myself one day in long barreled Cape Rifle style.

Quite an interesting cartridge and similar to Saeed’s 375-404. The cartridge I am imagining is the 9,3x62 case necked to a .423” bullet.
The idea I am extending to the universe is taking an existing 9,3x62 and reboring to .423” and using a .423” neck/throater, headspace off the extractor, fire form cases with ease and with minimal ballyhoo for a wildcat, able to achieve the 400@ 2,100 benchmark. The coincidence of the shoulder diameter of the 9,3x62 being the same as the neck diameter of 404 is too good to ignore if you have the wildcat bug.

I would not trust the case to headspace on that shoulder. If I wanted a 10.75/.423 caliber wildcat I would use a 8x88s case. Some rifle mods would be necessary but not to the extent of a 404 Jeffery and the cases are more available than a 10.75x68 Mauser.

This kind of cartridge, I would want to headspace off the extractor and not the shoulder or case mouth.

There was a 10.75X57 which resembles your cartridge other than the length of course.
Surely doable.

Cept the wildcat off the 62 case would have even more shoulder than the 57 did. I had one once, a 10,75x57.

Would a standard extractor hold the cartridge firmly enough to ensure consistent ignition, or is a modified extractor required?

Michael 458 has done a lot of r&d on this. It seems to work fine for his 500 MDM cartridge.

Boom,

8x68 brass would be a hoot. More than enough shoulder, length and case would work in most mausers and if you could get a "10." punch, add that to the case head to turn 8x68 into 10.8x68. 10.8mm is .425, but close enough for the gun naming world

If you think every possible niche has been filled already, thank a wildcatter!

If you have a 9.3x62 leave it alone, its a great caliber, buy yourself a 416 REm or Ruger to go with it for about the same money as the modification, and oh so much handier and cheaper to operate...

I used the 10,75x68 on two safaris as I recall, maybe 3..I was impressed with it, seemed as good as a 375 or 404 on several buffalo. What I liked best was the gun itself was trim and slim, a guild gun I think, handle quickly and was very accurate with a receiver sight.. At the time brass and bullets were hard to come by, and later I got a old custom rifle by a big time gun builder whos name I don't recall, and loved it...any case with less powder capacity would concern me Im thinking..
