Several of my wildcats have to be neck-reamed, e.g., 14-221 Walker, 219 Donaldson Wasp, 22-6mm, 6mm-06 Mashburn...

Is this common for the rest of ya'll ?

If the reason for inside neck reaming is to remove the "donut" then the answer is yes. Often with neck reductions or, shoulder setbacks, the "donut" will appear and inside reaming is the cure.

This is what happens if a case is necked up, cause it leaves a "do-nut" at the bottom of the neck, because the case is thicker in the shoulder-area than in the neck, and when necked up, a part of the shoulder becomes a part of the neck.
Or if necked down to much, this will give to much brass in the whole neck, and reaming is needed, thypically in your 22-06 and 6-06. Do You use .25-06 as starters? That would require less reaming than if you are going from a .30-06 case.

the only small wildcat i've done is the 257JLS (wsm) and I designed around that...

because i HATE neck reaming and or turning

I learned my lesson on a tight necked (federal cases worked great, out of the box) 222, and I can't "cope" with the waste of time ...

but that was on a tight neck issue...

on the AR rounds, I went around that, in that i designed the cases to blow out the donut and be sized back in, with the expander resizing them.


did I mention I dislike neck reaming?

also, don't have to neck ream the 550 express or flanged...


and I hope, when I get to it, that the 500 AR won't need it either.
