I've got an AK in 375JDJ that I built from a .410 Saiga shotgun. It works very well.
My dies are from Redding and are marked 375/444 Marlin.

I pulled an old target from the last time I shot it, 9/26/2008 and it put three shots into 7/8" at 100 yards. I'm sure a five shot group would be much larger. The load was 50.0gr H322 behind the 200gr Sierra Flat Point. WLR primers, RP cases.

Much of the load data that I have found was developed with a 14 or 16 inch barrel. The Encore barrel that I found is 24 inches in length. That should improve ballistics . Anyone out there have a long barreled 375 JDJ ? What are getting for vel ??

I have a 14" Contender with a brake.
I load to the middle of book data and it's plenty.

I had a 375 JDJ in an encore 24" barrel. Was a good shooter and in the encore it wasn't far behind the 375 H&H. But neither was the recoil. Iv'e had both and the JDJ seemed to kick worse than the H&H but the encore was a lighter gun. If I hadn't got old I would have kept it but the recoil was to much for me. Easy to reload and fireform. I would recommend it to someone who was wanting a good elk gun. Load development was just being reasonable and careful as I could never find any info for anything but the contender.

really neat round -- you might find dies listed as 375x444 as JD is a tad prickly on his trademarked names -- hence 300 blackout rather than another name

Isn't that the cartridge that the ATF made Barnes and others stop making the mono-metal solids for the 375 H&H since they could now be considered armor piercing handgun bullets.

yes and no -- that 'pistols" could be chambered in "rifle" rounds then meant that a bullet, which could fit in a rifle and could be considered AP would be illegal if it could fit in a pistol ...

which, practically speaking, would have meant there were now zero legal bullets in cali

About 1910. Don't mention that around JDJ it will just piss him off.

OK I'm going to try a re-start. But first some details. It is a 24 in barrel and its going on a rifle stock so please don't tell me about the recoil as a handgun. Does anyone have some loading data they would care to share ? Plan to try some 245 gr cast bullets. Also would like to try 235 gr Speer bullets. 250 gr bullets may get a try as well. Would appreciate any data you have tried. Thanks

I shoot 235 spears in my 375x444/375jdj in a 22" barrel handirifle that I built.
My load was with 48.0 h4895. Remember the bullets not expanding much.
They're made for 375 h&h velocities not jdj velocities.

I have a 23 inch contender 375 jdj barrel. IT only weighs 4 3/5 pounds with a fiberglass stock way too light .It bent the scope mount on it .I like the 375 Winchester way better less recoil and way easier to reload I have a 6 pound 444 marlin in a model 94 Winchester it's terrible to shoot Thud is from someone who shoots 416 rem mag and 338 win mag all the time !

Tried to make the deal on the 24 in barrel chambered in 375 JDJ. No deal. Found a 21 in barrel in 38-55 and had it rechambered to 375 JDJ. Loaded up some 235 gr test loads and headed to the range to sight in the 2-7x scope I mounted.Started with 4895 and the 235 gr Speers. This thing really shoots. 50 yd groups were literally one ragged hole. Will get some more rds loaded and head back to range next week.

I use the 220 grain Hornadys mostly; now discontinued I think.
In my Contender; you have to hold onto the fore end with one hand, and I put a brake on it. Very controllable. Sort of , in a fun way.

oh man, hornady has stopped making the 225gr that they built for the 376 steyr-- it was a great bullet

I have a few of the 225 Hornady spire pts and a couple boxes of the 220 gr flat nose bullets. I don't see any sense in working up a load for a discontinued bullet. I'm thinking that 235 gr Speer should work pretty good on a black bear or even a deer.

Isn't a 375 Winchester a similar purveyor of good stuff in a 12 to 14" barreled TC? I always wondered if it would be easier to bet an Encore barrel for the Winchester? I did for years wish for a 375 JDJ. But I decided his prices were over the top. I don't mind a guy being paid for his work. Just not a lot of extra. I am the lowest paid in the US at corrections but I still deal with max inmates each day I work. At least I only do a couple of days a week with a five day weekend. Just OT and crying over spilled milk I guess. Be Well, Packy.

Packy I have no experience with the 12 to 14 inch barrels so I will have to refer to the Hornady # 7 manual. The 375 JDJ handles about 15 grs more powder than the 375 Win with 220 gr bullets. This translates into almost 300 fps more muzzle velocity. Approx 1900 for the 375 Win and approx 2200 for the JDJ.In a longer rifle barrel (mine is 21 inches) I would think that advantage would be maintained. That is quite a difference in energy. My barrel is stamped 375/444 Imp as are my dies.

I was just asking. No knowledge here. I have experience with a 358 Winchester in a cannon breach pistol(Lone Eagle), 45-70 in a Contender, and 7MM BR in a Remington bolt gun. All short barrels are interesting to me. I also have .223, 22 K- Hornet, .22 rimfire, and a few others. Around the 375 I have little knowledge. I guess the Remington bolt gun could have a 350 Rem Mag put on it. Be Well, Packy.

It is very close capacity wise to my 400/375 belted. Or as said before, 9.5 Mann or 9.3x57.
In my 400/375 AA2015 worked well with the 220 grn Horn 46 grn giving 2450 fps.
Re 15 is a little slow burning. 52 grns with a 235 speer @2300 fps
IMR 4895 and the 235 speer gave 2410 fps with 49 grns of powder.
These are all just for reference, none of these were max loads in the 1936 Mex I built the rifle on.

Made it back to the range to shoot a few more test loads (235 Speer & 4895) I am having trouble finding the best load. Everything shoots great. Wish I had problems like this with all my rifles. Around 46 grs of IMR 4895 seems to be very consistant. Not max but a nice load

Recently, I’ve been loading for and shooting an old Mauser in 375 Rimless Express (9.5x57 or 9.5x56 Mannlicher) and have enjoyed it immensely.
I’m wondering why this chambering isn’t more popular.

I saw a lot of 375JDJ components at an auction and realized the more I studied it, the more it looks like simply a rimmed 9.5.
Is that fundamentally true?
D. Humbarger eluded to that earlier in this thread.
