Guys, Anyone care to comment on what sort of velocities may be possible from this wildcat using 200gr and 250gr projectiles? Rifle would either be an Enfield No4 or P14. I assume in the P14 it should pretty much match the 358Win? Cheers... Con

In the P-14 I'd think you might duplicate closely the .35 Whelen..... or fall somewhere between the .358 Win and the whelen. /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// "Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery." Vapodog, That's not what I wanted to hear given that I just missed a sporterised P14 in 303/25 , but it will be my prefered action. Cheers... Con

Elwood Epps in Canada did a lot of wildcatting with the P14 action and 303 British parent cartridge. You might do a search on Epps and see what data you can find. P14s are probably the strongest rifles in 303 British that are likely to be found. Jeff

Depending on how much you blow out the shoulder for the new case, capacity will be near 64 gn water, just about half way between the .358 and the .35 Whelen. If for better case life, you keep the reduced, .303 pressures, you should get the performance of the .358, say 2250 fps for the 250 gn bullets. (Both the Powley Computer and QuickLOAD agree on this performance level.)

That would be a hum dinger, I like 35's, enfields and rimmed cases. I'd imagine 200 gr @ 2600 or so, and 250's around 2200. If you had a fast twist barrel, say 1-10, you could try the Woodleigh 310 gr, though I'm guessing that would drop you down to around 1900 fps if that. Would be a dandy chambering for a double rifle

Powley and QL predict about 2000 fps, giving one a nice repeater in the league of the classic 400/350. That's for a COL per the .303. If you can seat those long bullets out further, you should be able to get 2050.
