Hey guys,

I tried doing a search on the site, but nothing came up.

Does anyone here know if this has been attempted and if it would offer any worthwhile gains - apart from the availability of brass.

Or does one gain the same performance with the .458 Lott?

Cheers,

Michael.

Michael...if you like wildcatting get copies of "Cartridges of the world", Donnellys "The Handloaders Manual of Cartridge Conversions", and a subscription to AmmoGuide. Almost all the wildcat conversions are found in one of those three.

Searching the web directly and all the forums you can find will also turn up all the latest iterations.

It is very hard to find a "new" wildcat...one that hasn't already been done except by doing a slight bit of changing of the dimensions...except maybe at the very large caliber end.

The 375 H&H came out in the early 1900's and that case or a variation of it, has been the basis of just about ALL the various increase and decrease in calibers since then.

That says quite a bit for one case for certain.

Now the WSM, RUM, and Ruger cases are at bat.

I always wonder at the proliferation of "wildcats" in todays world where the wildlife is being decimated for "bushmeat" with everything from ancient blackpowder shooters to automatic weapons, to feed the burgeoning world population. Hunting as some of us knew it won't last much longer.

Luck

450 Ultra Mag, sako extractor, Wyatts Extended center feed box, 3 down and one in the pipe. Feeds and ejects like a dream!!! Big Grin

Smokes the the Lott in cruise mode by about 400fps with a 500gr Hornady.

Launches 370gr CEB's like the Appollo moon shot.

Advil required after 48 rounds on the bench in two days. But it's fun!

200 yard, 3 shot group using cheap 350gr Hornady round nose while fire forming and load development.

96grs, 2764 fps out of a 26" 14 twist Lilja.

Old hat, it would be a Watts or trim it a tad and it would be a 458 Lott. and several others are about as close. The African smiths have a full length belted mag with a 3" case, thats pretty close and maybe a tad better, but balistically there is no difference in any of the big 45s.

Yup. Ray explained it perfectly. .with the Win Mag. Lott. 450 Rugby/ Dakota. And the 460 Wetherby. And the 3" African. There just isn't any reason to wildcat the 458 diameter.

.If it can,t be grown , its gotta be mined ....
