MileHighShooterCapacity estimation
Anyone have some ideas of what a .240 Wby case cut down to 2" would hold?
If you think every possible niche has been filled already, thank a wildcatter!

homebrewerI would find the volume of the case from the base to the shoulder, then subtract at least 10% or even as much as 15% if you think the case has a thick web. Use the usual calculations for area and multiply by the height of the powder column. You should be close...

ramrod340Take an 06 case cut it off and measure. the 240 is basically an 06 with a belt. Or you can calculate it.

As usual just my $.02

boom stick240 cases are cute...
R U thinking of the 425 Fossdal short?
Would be kinda neet.
Hey! this helps out my maxing out the 336 Marlin idea! 44-240 2"
No taper but belt headspace.

MileHighShooterI was kind of thinking a 348 off the 240 case with a 2.3" overall length. Just a thought, as midway is closing out 240 brass pretty cheap

CheechakoAbout the same capacity as a 243W, give or take depending on brass thickness.

If you go to .423, you would have to use the 347 grs Woodleigh, as it has the cannelure far foreward, but I doubt you would get mutch more than 2000 fps out of it... I am on a n oilrig in the north sea right now, but will make on up and measure volume when I come home if you are interested.
But for the work you are talking about, the .405 with original 300 grs seems a good idea!

It will work, boomie, but you will have to ream out the brass, as it will be to thick on a plain cut-off case. Brass is very thin in the .444.

Thats what I figured...
I remember the 425 Fossdal dummy I made being kinda thick at the 2.3" or whatever it was. I like the Idea and wrote more about it on the other thread. It would be the largest diameter you could have on the 470 rim and still crimp.
It would be a hybrid of a rifle/pistol cart like the 460 S&W.
I need a cool name for it though. 440 Magnum?
