OK, let's take the .376 steyr through the wildcat line up. What are these called or easily compared to in case capacity and performance? I could see a .338 or even .308.

8mm
.338
.358

with the exception of the 45 (can't work .011 total headspace)
all the rest have been done.. even to the point of a couple years ago, you could buy the reamers on midway...

remember, the steyr is a shortened x64!!

Here are a couple of cartridges that the Steyr factory sent me way back when. They were considering a line of cartridges. I would like an 8 mm (8X60 Steyr).

I saw a .300/.376 Steyr on John Ricks' workbench a few years ago when I visited him.

I have an encore by OTT in .338, w/ a wearthby type shoulder. It's case capacity almost exactly the same (perhaps just a hair larger) than the .300 SUAM: 335 OTTR. 200 gr bullets at 2500+ out of a 13.5" barrel, but still working up loads.

The 6.5 Steyr would be a ringer for the 6.5-284 assuming 3.1" COL like 6.5 Norma. You'd get more powder with the smaller bulelts, but that case with 140's from a 25"bbl is about as close to perfection as I can imagine. The short x64 would have the advantage of less rebate however.
If you're into levers and heavy-for-cal bullets, I see a whole line of rimless Barnes-type rounds for the new Marlins. A 35 cal shooting 280g casts at 2150fps from a necked-down Steyr trimmed to 284W length, 24" oct bbl, full mag -oooh... aaah.
With a forarm and barrel swap you could make a number of these for the same gun (or just bbl swap if you don't mind same contour.) Wonder what a 6.5 Barnes would do with a 160g RN @45kpsi?

BB,
the 284 case is the same capacity as a 30-06, necked to whatever caliber (about 66 or so)

the steyr is about 81-83...

that's nearly 23% larger case...

no relationship
