I have an both RWS 48 and a 52 and enjoy shooting both of them. I was recently going through the manual on the newly acquired 48 and saw that it has an adjustable set trigger. This is something new to me. Both my rifles have a considerable amount of slack in the take up but cannot figure out the set trigger feature. Could someone give me some ideas on how this works.
Thanks,
BJB

Hey BJB,

I'm not much of an Air Rifle specialist; having just received my first Air Rifle; a BSA XL Tactical as a birthday present from my wife (she's catching on!)

If it is truly a Single Set-Trigger; cool - I love 'em! The large amount of Take-Up (slack) you describe is a good indication.

Normally; the way to operate a so-called Single Set-Trigger (there are Double Set Triggers also) is to (carefully & lightly) insert a finger behind the trigger between it & the reat of the trigger guard and push (again, gently) forward on the rear side of the trigger until you hear a click (the trigger setting).

One caveat though is that there is normally a Set-Trigger adjustment hex-screw; either in the trigger blade itlself or under/in the trigger housing to adjust the "Set" from say, about a pound to a breathtaking few ounces. Personally, since that's what a Set-Trigger is for; I've got all of mine adjusted down to pretty much the bare safe minimum.

IF: this screw is already adjsuted TOO LOW - you will not hear the click since the trigger let-off pressure is already set so low that the rigger will not set itself (and also not cock). You can adjsut this either counterclockwise or clockwis.

Usually, you DO NOT have to cock a rifle to adjsut a Set-Trigger but read the instructions regarding this.

Usually, the "slack" your're speaking of gets taken up when the trigger is "Set" because it will move rearward eliminating or taking up all the Take-Up.

As above in the IF: part; you'll know when you've adjusted the "set" screw (the trigger) too low, since the Air Rifle won't cock as the trigger keeps releasing.

Sometimes I use a minute dab of Blue Loctitie on the "Set" screw as I've had them work loose on occaision but this normally depends on just how tight the adjustment screw fits in the threads.

Have Fun.

Gerry,
Thanks for your input on the set trigger. I did call the tech specialist at the US Importer for RWS. As near as we could figure out the instruction brochure that is listed on line is not correct. It does not have a set trigger( despite what is said in the literature) but simply an adjustment for taking the initial slack out of the trigger. I have used the single set and double set triggers so know how they operate. This seems to be a translation error from German to English.
Thanks,
Bruce

BJB,

Yup, I logged onto RWS/Diana's website and looked up the specs for both of your Air Rifles and noticed there was NO mention of a Set Trigger. Thought that was kinda wierd, since such would certainly be a top selling point IMO.

Then I thought you may have "Special" edition/version but appears that isn't the case either.

Sorry about the ong-winded thread.

http://www.pyramydair.com/site/manuals/RWS48/adjustments.shtml

This is the link where I got the info on the 48/52. Maybe there is different manuals on other sites??

I am confused to but won't worry too much about it.

My RWS 34 has the adjustable trigger and the screw is just to adjust the first stage of the dual stage trigger. I rolled mine out until the first stage almost is gone. I would love to be able to set the release weight, but not on this one.
