Need help with a Gamo 1000

I just bought a slightly used Gamo Shadow Sport air rifle to shoot pests at my bird feeder at a range of about 10 yards.

The rifle has a Gamo 3x9 scope which I have reasonably sighted in.

There was no instruction manual with it so I am asking for some basic advice as to how to clean the thing and adjust the trigger. Trigger is terrible but that may be just the way they are. I took off the trigger guard and found a small screw behind the trigger. Backed it off about 2 turns and could tell no difference.

Any advice would be appreciated. Merg

The screw for lightning the return spring is usually in the front of the trigger, that one behind may adjust the "2 stage" function

To improve it much you'll probably have to take it to bits and clean up the parts.

all you have to do.is put a slighty longer 3mm screw in the adj hole where the factory screw is now.the factory screw wont let you adjust all the creep out.and remove the trigger return spring.it will cock just fine.the trigger return spring is the first stage of the pull.mine has no creep and the trigger breaks crisp and clean at 11oz.some cleaning pellets is all you need to clean it.i have had one since they first came out.and have done many trigger jobs since.i also highly recomend the accushot one piece scope mount from pyrimid air.its rock solid and wont move.i dont even use a scope stop...

If you use cleaning pellets in a springer put a pellet in as well. The cleaning pellet on its own dosn't provide any back pressure to slow the spring down.

The specialist is right.use a regular pellet along with the cleaning pellet.even though Gamo says its safe to dry fire there air rifles i wouldent do it.ive seen broken springs in guns that werent dry fired.

Hey guys, Thanks for the good advice. I think I am going to like this thing. Cheap to shoot and very effective on the squirrels at close range.

I hope my obsessive/compulsive tendencies don't get me started looking at Beemans and such. The air guns could become an expensive hobby.
Thanks again, Merg

Well i had an RWS model 34.but after i bought the gamo i got rid of it.the model 34 ripped out the scope stop.and went back to RWS 3 times.twice for a broken spring.once for the ripped out scope stop hole.neither gun was any more accurate than the other.the gamo had a better trigger (after trigger work)but the RWS by far nicer looking.im not saying that gamo is a better gun but ive had my shadow 1000 for about 5-6 yrs now and i have had not one problem with it.i only had the RWS for 3 yrs.my next purchase is going to be the new Gamo .22 that shoots 1300 FPS with PBA pellets.that will top off my air gun collection quite nice. Cool

GAMO triggers are notorious; but there is a cure.

There is a mod named 'charliedatuna' who markets a replacement trigger called the GRT-III, about $25. It's a snap to install and the change is remarkable. Just my 2 cents but it worked for me.

Don't waste your time with the trigger. Buy the GRT-III. Install is quick and easy and you will not believe the difference.
