FrostbitI'm still going through the many videos to put together some stalking clips for Joyce and I found this one. I had completely forgotten about it. Pretty funny!!
I used Joyce's shortened stock CZ 22lr to try and dispatch a Francolin. I kind of lost track of it as it scurried into the grass.
This ended up in a case of mistaken identity.

MARK H. YOUNGJim,
Not to feel too foolish. I had a similiar expereince with a klipspringer and shot a rock. I did only shoot it once though.

Yup!! It was nice of Andrew to point out how many shots I took. That Termite mound was stone dead when I finished.

WoodhitsA fantastic safari all around. The flavor of your adventure honestly reminds me of "Horn of the Hunter".
Well done to you, "Madam", and Andrew.

D. NelsonJim;
I laughed my head off when I saw the francolin video...very funny.
I too had a similar experience with a bush pig...known as the foggy hoggy to this date!!!!! Made a gret shot on a small palm.
Best regards, D. Nelson

There is such a shortage of superlatives for a safari like this. Truly the safari of a lifetime.
I was very fortunate on a 21 day safari in 2011 and Andrew kindly said:
"The best collection of trophies from one hunt I have seen posted on AR or indeed elsewhere. Would seem Labat is on top of his game. Superb report and very well done bwana."
I appreciated the comment then, remember it fondly, and quote it here to convey that the very same must be said of this safari. This is a superb collection of some of the best that Zambia has to offer, particularly the sable, roan, sitatunga, and lion. Likely the most impressive bag of game that I have seen in some time. Clearly the clients and PH were on top of their game in this 21 day hunt.
Seems that the future is bright for Mr. Baldry and his new venture. I hope to see it in person sooner rather than later.
Congratulations to all three of you on a proper safari.
Jim,
I think Will summed it up about as well as can be done! What a wonderful safari! Now on to sheep training! We're going to have fun on our sheep hunt next year!!!

Rhyme of the Sheep Hunter
May fordings never be too deep, And alders not too thick; May rock slides never be too steep And ridges not too slick.
And may your bullets shoot as swell As Fred Bear's arrow's flew; And may your nose work just as well As Jack O'Connor's too.
May winds be never at your tail When stalking down the steep; May bears be never on your trail When packing out your sheep.
May the hundred pounds upon you Not make you break or trip; And may the plane in which you flew Await you at the strip.

FrostbitJoyce had something like four 32 Gig memory sticks for the camera so needless to say we are still going through some videos and stills.
Here is one of the many, many sunset shots we took. Andrew located the camp perfectly in that the bend of the Kafue River gave us both sunrise and sunset photo opportunities.
15 August 2012, 09:56
FrostbitWhile waiting for Madam to drive the Cruiser to the Buffalo, which took quite a while, Andrew took the opportunity to find a comfy seat and examine my Hoffman in detail.
15 August 2012, 09:58
FrostbitI love sunrise but this is not one I wanted to see. The paint scheme on the plane means we are back in the States.

MARK H. YOUNGAh! But those Alaska sunrises and sunsets particularly in the winter are like nothing I've ever seen anywhere.

I totally agree especially the sunset in late fall.
But for total disclosure that sunrise shot over the Alaska Air plane was taken at Dallas-Ft. Worth Airport on the way to our morning connection to Seattle.

FrostbitEmail today from Bangweulu Taxidermy (Mike Borman) and all paperwork, vet inspection, dip & pack completed and trophies should ship shortly.
I'd call that excellent service and I think worth mentioning when I have seen others wait over a year for trophy shipments done elsewhere.
Will update when they hit the States.

Good to know. Mike Borman had told me it should be going this week. Problem is my taxidermist is outside Kotz in Alaska right now chasing Caribou with some goofball named Wendell. Had them and their friend "Buddy" up to the house along with Brett and his girlfriend. Had a great time.
Time for you and Julie to plan a visit.
Cheers

Thierry LabatJim,
Just went through this report again and I will have to say that it's the finest collection of trophies I have seen coming out of an area. Without exception they are all above average. Big congrats to Andrew and his crew for all they are doing in that area. I hope to visit that place one day!!

Thank you Bill. I didn't want to but I thought of you during the Sitatunga recovery. I kept seeing your face with Hippo blood on it after your surprise charge.
Pretty uncomfortable feeling walking across Hippo trails in the dark.

Mike SmithSo where does Andrew stand at this point? Is he totally screwed or is it just lion that is issue? Is all hunting shut down or just certain species?

I could be wrong but I think all is shut down except fenced game farms. No fences at Royal.
