Just back from hunting with Kambako Safaris in Mozambique for the 2nd time. My hunting buddy blackdogsrule & I both took top end trophies. The hunting area and the hunt itself were simply incredible. Kambako is 1st class in every way. Their camp is extremely remote but very comfortable with all the necessary comforts. Camp staff was excellent, food delicious. Our PHs Paul & Ryan are the best we have ever hunted with anywhere. They are knowledgeable professionals at the top of their game and good company. They busted their azzes to get us on top end trophy game and the results speak for themselves. Their team of trackers were unbelievable. Simply magical to watch them do their thing. I am totally amazed at their ability to track game. You have to experience it 1st hand to truly understand how amazing it truly is. Hunting here is not easy but if one is willing to work the game is surely there. It is true fair chase hunting in wild Africa.

Congrats. With no disrespect intended regarding the other buffalo, the first and fourth buffalo are studs. Same for that bushbuck. Mike

Congratulations on the great trophies. That first buffalo is the best one I have ever seen - the ugliest too! I wish I could have him on my wall. I am not a big one for mounted trophies but that buffalo would make the grade. "When the wind stops....start rowing. When the wind starts, get the sail up quick."

Congrats on a great trip. They sure are a first class outfit. Could not be a nicer place to hunt in the wild. Did you leave Ryan a big enough tip that he can get a haircut?? Just last week a got my leopard back from the 2014 hunt i did there.

Haa Haa yep Ryan has gone hippie on us. You guys have sharp eyes. The buffalo in the 1st pic is 44 wide. The bush buck is 18 inches!! My buddies eland is quite an exceptional trophy too at 44 inches !! As I said our PHs put us on top animals BUT we worked for them too passing up lots of animals and walking miles and miles. I didn't even see a buffalo until day 3. The way that they hunt only the old dugga boys at Kambako by tracking them is the absolute coolest and best way to hunt them IMO. I doubt I'll ever hunt them any other way.

Mark used his Hyem 450-400. I loaded all the rounds for his rifle with Woodleighs and they flat out worked. He was having waaaaay too much fun with the double

the 375 saw some action too. Mark shot 300 grain TSX out of his and I shot Northfork cupped point solids and 300 grain softs out of mine.

Classic hunt! Could you give us an idea on what you saw as far as the overall quantity and variety of game. For example did you see any big herds of buffalo (I know Kambacko does not hunt the breeding herds), any sign the elephant are more numerous, sable, hartebeest, cats. Thanks again.

Yep, stud animals! I'm jealous of that bushbuck. I'd love to get one with two horns. Frank "I don't know what there is about buffalo that frightens me so.....He looks like he hates you personally. I am not a safari expert having hunted Nambibia 1 time and with Kambako 2 times so my observations are limited to those experiences only. At Kambako game is plentiful but you have to go find it and work at it a little bit especially if you want to find good trophies. Not terribly difficult but you'll get what you are willing to put in to it. I like it that way. This is NOT a game farm of fenced area. It is totally wild and free and the game moves about freely based on water, weather, poaching, etc. Impala, Kudu, Eland, Zebra, warthog, sable, buffalo, bushbuck, diker, and several other animals were plentiful. Wildebeest and Hartebeest were there but I didn't see any although i wasn't looking for them. Other hunters did encounter them. I think everyone saw lions, leopard #s are very strong. As stated Kambako only hunts the old dugga boys that are separated from the herds by tracking them. It is a very intense and exciting way to hunt. Success is not guaranteed as these old buff are on high alert but if you track enough of them eventually you'll get the drop on one or 2 of them. We did encounter herds but it was totally by chance as we were not looking for them. Kambako also follows a very strict trophy size minimums on all the other animals which helps them produce excellent trophies consistently.

Looked to be a great hunt with some excellent buffalo taken. Other game was top notch as well. Glad to see George A. Custer reincarnated as an African PH! Elephant #s have plummeted due to poaching. During our hunt 4 different elephant carcasses were found that had been poached - shot. One group was 2 tusk-less females one of which was pregnant as evidenced by the small jaw bone found at the kill site. Only the tails were removed with the carcasses left to rot. Likely the poachers shot them so they would not have to track a tusk-less elephant again then cut the tails off which will make a $5 bracelet.

MJ the two buff in the middle were shot with a Heym Double gun in ,450/400 with open sights. We had trailed quite a few dugga boys only to lose them. We caught 3 of them in a "open" area. The PH said shoot that one so I did. There was 2 more there and he instructed me to shoot another one he picked out so I did. No time to judge trophy size and bosses. No scope and I didn't waste time glassing them. PH says shoot so I shoot.

Like I said, all four buffalo are proper old bulls, the first and fourth are just ancient. Two bulls out of one group with a double . . . well done . . . that's an accomplishment not many can say they have done. Mike

same for me on both bulls. I had no idea of horn size on either of them until I walked up to them. PH said shoot and i did. As quickly as I could get a good shot off my 375 was barking and kept barking until the bull was down and done . Horn size was just a bonus. Shooting an old ugly dugga boy is just plain fun. Horns are just horns.
