As always, we enjoyed a great hunt, accommodations and comradery with Wendell and his Guide Mike. Four of us journeyed to his Texas Red Bluff Ranch including my Mountain Feist, Tico. Two of our group took Whitetail bucks; 9 and 10 pointers. My friend Louis and I hunted Aoudad. It was my third attempt to take one of these cagey goat like sheep and on the last evening I put a 160 Nosler Accubond through a great ram. I haven't scored him yet but his bases are over 13 inches and a battle scared veteran for sure. This was an outstanding hunt for me as the terrain and flora is rough and tough: just like Aoudad love to call home. Saw lots of Red Deer/Stag, Whitetail and Mule Deer. A few Fallow and Mouflon Sheep. Lots of Coyote, a few Rio Grande Turkey and lots of migrating ducks and geese (wish they would stop over and stay a while). Wendell and Mike are great hosts, excellent Guides and friends. We all are booking for next year. There is a huge Mouflon on that ranch with my name on him. IF we can find them again.
Cheers,
David Keith

Either my eyes are getting worse or you left Tico out of the picture!

Congratulations on the Aoudad.

Thank you fella's. Range: we didn't put the range finder on him, but I would guess 150 yards. It was dusk when he came walking up the canyon. I've missed two before at ranges of 250-300+ yards and in both cases my scope was off. This has become a concern as it is a new Leupold VX-L that I highly cherish. I'm going to be looking into that. Most ranges on trophy rams will average 200 or more yards, but you never know when they will walk out into the open at short range. Usually not however. They have keen eyesight and good noses. On this ranch you will see them in groups normally: mature ram with nannies/ewe's; bachelor groups or old rams alone. Those with health issues could hunt them over alfalfa or from a pop up blind but be prepared to climb and glass canyons/washes if you want a good foot hunt. The rough areas are covered in Juniper and all game knows how to hide very well in it.
Good hunting,
David

UEG, They are on the small size. I've seen 5x5s but they are not big Mulies. Don't know if they are a sub-specie, but they are all small in size. I do know they are indigenous to the ranch and local area. There are a few big ones in the county. Last year I believe it was a big Mulie Wendell's guide took with a bow not far from the ranch. They would be excellent to hunt for a youngster but I like seeing them on the ranch as they are not skidish at all, unlike the other game.
x2, yes, it would be great to have you join us.
GH,
David

He survived G, but doesn't like riding...even to the store. I haven't no idea why he gets so nervous and upset but he gets nausea when he travels. He's fine when his legs hit the ground. Vet says give him Dramamine which I have but it doesn't seem to do much. I scored him today at 135 SCI and 28.25 RW.
Cheers,
David

I measured my Goatalo this morning. It scored 134.25 inches. It takes 110 to enter SCI and 26 inches for Roland Ward. Length was 28.50 X 28.625 inches, with both bases going 13 inches. Don't know where it will rank, and really don't care. He's the quality ram/billy I was looking for and that's what matters most to me. Thanks again Wendell. We'll see you again!
