Instead of posting pictures here, I just made a webpage to share.

Great hunt and report. Do you have any general pictures of the land in that area? It seems flat.

ALLEN W. JOHNSON - DRSS

Into my heart on air that kills
From yon far country blows:
What are those blue remembered hills,
What spires, what farms are those?
That is the land of lost content,
I see it shining plain,
The happy highways where I went
And cannot come again.

Wendell,

Congratulations on a great hunt. Sorry about the malaria though. I hope you can return to finish your business with the hyena, sable and roan! Best wishes. Hopefully no continued issues with the malaria.

Very good report and pictures. I hope you are feeling 100% now.

Any plans for future hunts to compensate for the lost time?

Nice buffs. That reject one would probably please anybody that's hunted them hard. As you say, you gotta listen to your PH.

Glad you survived. looks like you had a good hunt before the Big M got you.
Is that a Chapuis Double rifle I see?
How do you like it? I assume it is a 470.

Wendell,
Congratulations on some excellent Tanzanian trophies. The first bull you shot was beautiful and the second was certainly no slouch. Well done. Looks like you were able to "blood" your double, as well. Was this the same area Peter was hunting?

Shoot me some info on the area some time and let's talk.

Oops, I neglected this post.

Palmer, yes, I will post some pictures of the landscape.

I do not have any plans to return to exact vengence on the Hyena and Roan at the moment.

450, yes that is the Chapuis. I forgot to tell the story of how I got pushed off the anthill with the Chapuis. I was standing in a quite unbalanced form, comfortable for the shot, but not enough backing to keep me steady after the shot. Well, I squeeze the trigger and took a little "backwards jog" down the anthill. It was quite entertaining to those watching. Good thing nobody was behind me.

bwanamrm, Peter? I do not know who you are talking about.

All the rest who wished me a speedy recovery. Thank you very much thanks for the posts, e-mails and phone calls. I am about 85% now and getting stronger.

Here is one thing Wendell didn't say...

His shot on that first buff was fabulous - I bullshit you not, it was 350 yards. I measured the wind speed and told him to hold about 8 inches into the wind. He was using my .416 and had a one shot kill. It was a tremendous shot.

Wendell, you can post my pics if you want, but I can tell you my slides look much better than your digitals.

Wendell,

Nice report. Thanks for educating me on that area Wink

Man, that is a terrible experience you had with the big M. It's something we all worry about everytime we go. Niki and I were bit by mosquitos several times in Cameroon and just kinf of held our breath. Guess we are lucky to tolerate Larium but it's still a crap shoot.

Sounds like Scotty had the right meds and Med Jet got you home PDQ. Glad you survived the ordeal. Yet another example of the need for fulland complete travel insurance. Continue your recovery! All the Best, Keith

Nice webpage and good report on the good and bad of your hunt. I'm sorry you didn't get a roan; that is the number one animal on my wish list. I hope you are back to 100% in short order. That was quite a scare you had.

Russell, yes that is right, now I remember!

Thanks Forrest and Keith,

The problem with the Roan was that I had picked a place on the wall where he would go. I believe that jinxed me.

I got my bags back and there are 5 rolls of undeveloped film. I will post the second part of the report when I get those back.
