Early season is marked with usually fleeting sightings of most game, a swish of a tail here, a glimmer of ivory there as we peer into, sometimes under the thick brush trying to make out what way the elephant is facing! Smiler

BUT

It is also lush and the animals are in fantastic condition. It's quiet (there are no leaves on the ground), and being the first one into an area, all sorts of surprises await us.

This safari was no exception. We were in Sango, The Save Valley and elephant was on the agenda.
I'll leave it at that and let the pictures do the talking....

Enjoy

Couple of tracks that I really liked and followed, but the bulls were not what we were looking for.

But this was the one ....

77 in the Save is quite spectacular - must be the biggest taken there ? Those Gonarhezou genes are great!

Congrats

Just outstanding. I long for the days when I could afford to hunt Sango. Had lots of great times there.

Phillip,

Huge congrats! 19" at the lip! Very nice. My first client of the '18 season also took a very nice bull on the Save.

We couldn't have done it without my team, so they deserve most of the credit - I only point and say... that one! Smiler

The team on the ground and Zambezi Hunters do a phenomenal job. It makes the rest of us look good Smiler

Did age that good ellie bull Philip? A photo of his lower jaw and the soles of his front and back feet would help us greatly with the elephant aging work we do at the Southern African Wildlife college.

We age all the animals in the Save. Something that I am always fascinated by - currently our Ecologist is the one who will work out his age and I will let you know when it is complete.

He was on his 5th set of molars and they were fully in wear with 1/2 an inch of his 4th set just about to be pushed out.
