BVC hunt Zimbabwe
Dates: June 2016
PH: Brent Hein
Booking Agent: Self
Client:
Rifles used: 35 Whelen, 375 ruger, 416 rigby

The client shot: 40 animals.
1 lion - we will see but it might be the biggest lion shot in Zim this year as per skull measurements. It ties with No. 9 in SCI according to an old record book I have. Size not important to me but for those interested.
1 leopard
3 buffalo - 41.5 inches was the biggest
2 giraffe
2 hyena
2 waterbuck - the bigger one was 29.5
7 zebra
15 imapala
1 kudu - 54"
1 eland
1 porcupine
1 klipspringer
1 baboon
1 blue wildebeest
1 porcupine

The client's main focus was a good lion. which was 18 hunting days. To that he added a non trophy buff another 7 days and later added a leopard/buff combo a further 15 days. However the hunt was all done in 19 days. This alone is testament to such a great well managed area. We shot the lion on day 10 if I remember right, but prior to that we could have easily shot another 2 or 3 lions, which would have been great lions anywhere else in Africa. The bush was still pretty thick but we saw a lot of plains game. I can only imagine what it must be in the drier season!

I will let the pictures tell the story.

Lions we didnt shoot

As you can see these lions were totally unafraid of us feeding 20 yards from the truck!

non trophy buff

shooting bait here is no problem!

this lion chased us away from his bait in broad day light! While checking the bait we spotted him in the bush, instead of taking off, he decided to come for us and chased the truck over 150 yards. Unfortunately the client wasn't with us that morning so he lived another day.

We saw some big lioness as well!

Me with the clients leopard. This is also a great destination for good leopard and while no leopard hunt is a 100% hunt, the chances that you will get one here is pretty good.

With the lion

we saw several sable in the 40-42" range

2 imapala taken with 1 shot with the 416 rigby - just happened thatway

Another one we let go!

We got pretty close to some eles in the vehicle!

That's why they are called waterbuck Smiler. No we didn't shoot it in the water.

The BVC is not a cheap place to hunt, this hunt was a six figure hunt, but you are paying for a quality experience. To compare, you may pay a couple of thousand bucks more for a buff / plains game hunt here than other places in Zim, but unless you have the devil on your back you will come home with a buff. And you will also see plenty of buffalo. I truly feel bad for hunters I meet who say they came back from Zim, had a great hunt and experience, tracked buff for 10 days and never shot one! I am not saying it can't happen in even the best areas, but there are sadly many depleted areas where this happens all the time.

We will be at SCI and DSC in January if anyone wants to come by and talk hunting.

Thanks for looking.

The BVC is truly the Garden of Eden. The lions are unbelievable and the PG is mind boggling. Took my granddaughter there in 2014 and had the time of our lives.

Excellent photos and quite the bag of harvested game. Sounds like it's time to build a new trophy room after a hunt like that!

They have a fairly small elephant population. John Sharp told me the biggest bull they have in the conservancy is around 55#. They don't sell any trophy bull hunts, just non-trophy and these are usually younger bulls that are beginning to cause problems. The bigger bulls are just for photographic purposes.

Very nice, the Bubye ("Boobie") is a special place and an undeniable conservation success story made possible by hunting and a for-profit business model.
