2015 turned out to be one of our best seasons at Munya in the time I have been there. We really took some good trophies and ended up with a 41inch average on buffalo for the year. This year I also conducted a few hunts on our neighboring properties Nyamvu and Nyakolwe as well as in West-Petauke Luembe GMA. The three private properties (Munyamadzi, Nyamvu and Nyakolwe) lay on the eastern bank of the Luangwa River. It is amazing to see how these private properties have succeeded with wildlife conservation. The increases in wildlife numbers are astonishing. We now all work together between the reserves on our anti-poaching. Last month the scouts from Nyamvu managed to apprehend one of the most notorious elephant poachers in the area. He has been escaping all of us for several years and was responsible for the poaching of over 100 elephant in the Lower Luangwa. The poacher was sentenced with 15 year in prison! Fortunately we have very little problems with snare poaching. Our areas are patrolled too intensely for this to be productive for the poachers. Our main problems are muzzleloader poachers who poach for meat and obviously the serious elephant poachers. In general the poaching is minimal on the private lands and is the main reason that that the wildlife numbers are increasing rapidly. It a privilege for me to be part of all this, and especially since I grew up in the area and have been able to see the improvements from when I was a child and up to now. If we are allowed to continue are projects, the Lower Luangwa, will in the near future become one of Africa’s top destination for big game hunting safaris. My first hunt of the season took me to Nyakolwe. It was almost twenty summers and winters since I last set foot on Nyakolwe. Back then it was with my old man and it was here I got my passion for hunting. Little did I know it then but it was also here I spent my first birthday. Things had changed a great deal but it was great to be back and the wildlife in the area is thriving. The hunting on Nyakolwe is operated by Ebony Safaris. Nyakolwe is the largest of the three private reserves and covers 50,000 hectares. MUNYAMADZI MAIN CAMP FROM THE AIR ARRIVE IN STILE AT MUNYA My client Pavel took some great trophies on Nyakolwe as you can see on the photos below. The next hunt we had would be on Munyamadzi itself. Here my clients were Stefan and Kjell from Norway and PH Sarge Karim was second PH and hunted with Kjell. Munyamadzi is famous for it's DIY Pizza After the swedish team I was brought back to Nyakolwe to do another buff with Mr. Niessen. On the first day we took this great buff. The back to Munyamadzi where I had the pleasure of hunting with with AR's D.Unger. Some of you will already have read his report on his hunt. On the same time Rick and his daughter Nicole hunted with another PH. They also took some magnificent trophies and were fortunate enough to shoot their buffalo on the same time. A true farther daughter buffalo hunt. Dave's buff was taken on the neighboring Nyamvu about 10 km up river from our camp. After that we had the AR group hunt organized by Andrew Baldry and Myself. Some of you will have seen the report andrew started and the additional report AR's Ridgeman wrote **Bushbuck Addiction** So I will just ad some extra photos here as I'm you know the stories. Amazing trophies. I am really curious about the first hunters - were they using a Mannlicher Schoenauer rifle? What caliber? Did they shoot the buffalo with that? "When the wind stops....start rowing. When the wind starts, get the sail up quick."

Yes he was using a Mannlicher Schoenauer that he had borrowed from me. The caliber is 8x68S. I inherited this riffle from my father. The Rifle was a present from his grandfather when he left for Africa. The Buffalo was shot with a Mauser M03 375 H&H also hired from me. Thor Kirchner Munyamadzi Game Ranch +260 978157643 P.O. You chaps are doing outstanding work and have invested heavily in depleted and denuded lands converting them into rich wildlife estates. Well done to you all. And a big thanks to all the hunters who have supported you. I very much looking forward to hunting this area this year and consider these blocks to offer some of the finest safari experiences in Africa. A classic example of the end-product derived from wildlife conservation managed at the highest level; something which should be noted by the Anti-hunting groups!

Thanks for the update. Great to see an old classic still being used in the field. I am surprised that more such rifles are not seen on the various AR reports. I have one in 6.5X54 & a take down in 9.5X57MS - I wish I could hunt Africa with them! I did use a 6.5MS in India once on a beat shoot in the 1980s but did not get to shoot anything with it.

Thor, thanks for the recap. Enjoyed the whole experience. What a breath of fresh air to read about successful Wildife areas - Thor, well done to you and your team AND to the HUNTERS that ultimately make it all possible!! If only the greenies, politics, poaching etc would stay out of so many other areas that could also become wildlife havens!!! (See you got a good taste for cameramen - Andy Mac is one of the best in the business IMO!!!)
